Where is the Best Steak in Chicago, Illinois?
My boyfriend and I went there to celebrate his birthday, and we had a great time. I was reading through some of the more “negative” reviews, and I can see maybe why they were disappointed, because it does get a lot of hype, and maybe they were expecting a more “fine dining” kind of experience. But this is part of what makes the Chophouse so great. They haven’t changed much since the day they opened in 1986. It is a traditional chophouse, you have to go for the steak and seafood. If you go expecting gourmet delicacies for your side, then of course you will be disappointed. It is all about the meat, (which is delicious!), and you can enjoy it in a traditional Chicago environment: live music, and the walls giving homage to Chicago mayors and mobsters. Our food was great, the steak was PERFECT, and our waiter was absolutely wonderful. Everyone working there was great, and very attentive, and we came for the steak and got the best in town. I would definitely recommend this Chicago C
Coming from L.A. and spending months of the year in NYC and Tokyo, I was hoping for a great meal from Custom House, Chicago. The canned reviews are just that. The real reviews are quite different and this is one. Service was fine wsith a couple of set backs…Asking for wine after an order was placed…filling sparkling water glass with flat. I can let that go. The food was just ok and some was just not good. The butternut squash soup was over-seasond and swimming with garnish. Way too much blue cheese. Sweetbreads were soggy and the “House Made Bacon” was limp and flavorless. Seafood was ok. The steaks were done to perfection and quite tender, yet nothing special. All the sides, aside from the tortelli were way too salty, and the cauliflower gratin was just gross. Bitter and gritty. I finished with a trio of sorbet. The lemon had the best tuxture, yet the flavor was tangy and too sweet. The pear sorbot looked terrible. Greyish brown in color and not the right texture. Cranberry/orange
Hey, butter and salt and pepper are awesome with steak! MY KC strip was cooked perfectly and seasoned so well. The wait staff knows their stuff, they made great recommendations interms of what pairs well with what. The salad portions were large and were pretty good. The au gratin potatoes were pretty good, but I wasn’t thrilled. And if they have the Tahitian vanilla gelato, save some room! Good eats.
WOW! What a great restaurant! Great experience! Make sure you go on an empty stomach. Also, don’t forget to turn over your coaster. My daughter forgot, and had about 3 “Gauchos” surrounding her ready to fill her plate. The service and food are awesome. Don’t forget to order their signature drink/dessert after dinner. The fruit that is in it, settles…
Wow. My husband and I went here for dinner last night because his parents had given us a gift card for his birthday a few months ago. The only other time I’ve been to Captial Grille was in Boston over 7 years ago. Dear God, why have I waited so long to return?? Perhaps it’s because I didn’t remember it being quite this good. For starters let me say that the food was phenomenal, the service fantastic, and the ambiance spot on.We decided to begin dinner with a dirty martini (me) and a Sam winter (hubby). My martini was great, and arrived with either a choice of either regular or Blue cheese stuffed olives to complement my martini. Blue cheese please! My husband was jealous and kept stealing sips and eventually an olive. I haven’t decided if I’ve forgiven him for that yet…Then, after looking at the sizes of the steaks, we decided we would be plenty full by splitting one along with a few sides. Our waiter agreed (surprise, he didn’t try to pressure us into adding an additional $40 to the
