Where is the Best Steak in Chicago, Illinois?
We made reservations the same night and surprisingly got in on a crowded rainy Friday night relatively quickly. If you want an ultra romantic atmosphere ask for the private rooms (that have 4 tables) off to the right side behind the hostess area. If you are a wine enthusiast, (we aren’t), this is definitely the place to be! Our waitress was VERY knowledgeable and attentive and gave an extensive description of all the dishes and how they are prepared. We started with the Oyster platter and crab and lobster cakes – both EXCELLENT choices! The oysters especially were outstanding – clean, crisp bite a real ‘taste of the sea’. For entrees I ordered the aged filet mignon on a bed of porcini mushrooms in a fig reduction, my boyfriend had the Kansas triple-aged porterhouse – both were juicy and flavorful. Oh, we also got the lobster mac and cheese as a side – to die for! My boyfriend’s steak was slightly charred on the outside, upon mentioning this; our wait staff jumped right into act
I have been there on each trip to Chicago. Always been a great place. Sorry to hear they have fallen down on the job. I read reviews and negative outweigh the positives. FYI: My first visit I did not understand the the scene, and our reservation time came and went, so I joked with the maître d’ about our reservation time and he liked my attitude and Texas accent, (laughed with me and asked me where I was from) so we were sat in minutes. You tourists may need to try that, and a firm handshake with some green in it. “Uncle Larry” took us there, he worked down the street form them for 40 years and was a regular. When I started making jokes with the maître d’ about it, he quietly pulled me aside to inform me that “Wiseguys get sat first!” At first this Texan did not quite understand so I made him repeat it with my puzzled look. I finally “got it” but by then we were being sat with the other “wiseguys” that do not wait to be sat at G&G’s. Pros + Use to be a great Steak/Chop and servi
So my wife and I have eaten at the best of the best steak houses nationwide and still always agree Joe’s in Chicago is where it’s at. Now so you know I have eaten at other Joe’s and none of them even compare to the quality of food Joe’s Chicago offers. My personal recommendations would be the Chicago Stable, Bone In Rib-Eye, The Scallops, and of course the KING CRAB!!!!If you are visiting Chicago or just never made it to Joe’s change your dinner reservations and make them at Joe’s ASAP.–> This place is not easy to get into. Make reservations at least a week out! Pros + The Food and Service is just AMAZING!!!Cons – Valet service is so RUDE!!! Lost you a star, FYI!
Hi there – I celebrated my 40th bday there with close friends. He had a WONDERFUL TIME. Great service and excllent food! The Prime Rib was the best I’ve ever had and I’ve dined at the best rated Steakhouses inthe city. Gibson, Capital Grille, Magnums, Rosebud, Chop House, Gene’s. We had drinks and gathered in the bar lounge while waiting to be seated and we had so much fun. I don’t remember the bartenders name, mike or bob or something, he was hysterical and told us how much HE loved working there. So that says a lot about the place. I had the best birthday in forever there and the staff all came and sang to me. I think the entire restaurant knew it was my birthday cause even the host wished me well when I passed the front desk. It was really busy though so I don’t think I’d just show without a reservation. my boyfriend also got kind of jealous with all the cute guys in the bar trying to buy me drinks. Too bad. haha I am going back for sure
