Not the romantic spot at ALL. Went there for an anniversary and will NEVER go back. It is so stuffy and not at all a romantic sitting. I could have a better and more romantic time being attacked by ants at a picnic along the river. The food was AWFUL. I had prime rib which was very DRY and had NO TASTE. I have had better food and better experience at many other smaller places. I just feel really terrible because lots of thought was put into picking this place and was very disappointed. Could NOT wait to leave and did NOT stick around for dessert.

I was beyond shocked when I opened the menu on my first visit to Tree Steak House. Given the ambience, my dining partners and I did not expect to see a 6 ounce filet mignon for $22, particularly one accompanied by such boring sides and a pathetic salad bar. I must say, though, that I was pleasantly surprised by my medium rare filet. It was perhaps the juciest steak I have ever had and absolutely melted in my mouth. If only there was something other than a plain steamed broccoli stalk or a baked potato to accompany it. And the unlimited salad bar? Nothing interesting there, either. Lettuce, a few toppings, and an assortment of dressings. Who wants to go back for seconds of that? The decor is 1980s country kitchen in hunter green vinyl. The Tree could do well with a makeover, something lively and interesting, circa 21st century. Our waiter was competent and professional, but seemed to be putting on airs in line with the prices, but certainly well beyond the ambience of the Tree.Sur

“Be sure to try the Palm Salad and homemade ravioli! We have only had fabulous meals at Dwight’s!”

The first thing I noticed when we sat at our table was the noise–and there is lots of it. If you’re up for loud music and a room FULL of people trying to talk over it, this is your place because everything else is fabulous. Food is great, priced to match, wine list is extensive, and service is good. But if you’re looking for a quiet, romantic table, or a serious business lunch or dinner, you might look elsewhere. Pros + Food, service, location, modern decorCons – Noise

My husband was in Jacksonville on business and I went along. I searched the Internet for a good, high end restaurant because we love gourmet dining and great wine. Matthews seemed like the right choice but you really never know until you get there. From the moment we walked in until we were literally walked to the car by our waiter, we were in heaven. The decor is upscale while still being welcoming. The wait staff is professional without being pretentious. Our waiter was Jason and we couldn’t have been more pleased. He was knowledgeable, efficient, friendly and helpful. We chose the chef’s tasting and what a treat. Every course was delightful and the wines were superb. We eat at a lot of fine restaurants across the country and there are not many that compare to this one. The Ritz Carlton Buckhead in Atlanta may be one of the few we would rate as high. The price was perfect (even below what we had expected) and every detail was amazing. The portions were just right (consi
