Where is the Best Special Occasion Dining in Albuquerque, New Mexico?
This is my favorite place to eat. I have been going there for over 30 years. We always eat early so it is quite and dark. We spend at least 2 hours dinning so that we enjoy ourselves. The steaks are out of this world. We start our dinner out with the shrimp cocktail. The shrimp are large and firm. Next comes the salad which doesn’t have just iceberg lettuce in it. They now mix all sorts of yummy lettuces and assortments to their salad. Dinner is always good no matter what you order. If you are going for lunch they have the best fried chicken I have ever eaten. The sad part is they only serve it at lunch. They serve a wonderful homemade bread. I always take the leftovers and make french toast the next morning. The drinks are made on the stiff side. I figure if I want a drink with dinner and I’m paying for a drink I want it on the stiff side. If you are going try to sit in Mark or Lorene’s section. They are just the best!!!
A couple of weeks ago (April 2006) my wife and I received a gift card from Buca di Beppo. This was actually the first time we had heard of it! So, when time permitted, we decided to give it a shot. We went there on a Wednesday evening before 5:30 PM. The parking lot was mostly empty and we easily found a fine parking place. The front of the restaurant had advertisement cards for beer and wine and also an Italian bakery. The beer and wine was evident, but no sign of a bakery. The entrance area was nicely decorated, but passing through the kitchen area on the way to our table was a new experience for us. Seating was comfortable in a room simply covered in decorations. Buca di Beppo is a ala-carte restaurant, i.e., you order all your meal choices separately. Prices seemed a little high until we got our briefing from the server. We have heard a lot about this restaurant and finally got a chance to visit it. We had great service, but the food wasn’t what I expected, but it was good. We have had better calamari and fettucini alfredo. I expected a better ambience, but otherwise it was cute and the bar area looked nice and the menu and prices were appropriate for the quality and restaurant style. It was kind of cheaply decorated, but cute and slightly romantic. It could definitely be done better for ambience though.
