Where is the Best Soup in Los Angeles, California?
I was charmed by the well designed old fashioned interior, with old mirrors, a lot of wood, chandeliers, and charming baskets and milk pails. There is a patio and a small old fashioned bar to the side. No question the interior is worth seeing even if you have to put up with the average food once. I ordered the liver and onions with bacon, and oven potatos. The food was OVERLY SALTY, the onions were soggy like the potatos, the bacon bits were like salt cubes. I had to ask for the rolls, and the waiter told me it was given only by request. My waiter was attentive. The price of the food was really expensive for something called a cafe. I regretted when the check came because my food was so bad. I was completely unsatisfied with the meal, there were average dessert choices, I didn’t even bother with.Pros + good atmosphere, nice interiorCons – , expensive
I must say I was surprised when we pulled up, this place looks like a total dive complete with wood paneling and lattice decor. We ordered the egg rolls, tofu with chili and mint leaves and pad see eew with tofu. Everything was surprisingly good, though the appetizer and main courses came at the same time. For dessert, – mango and sticky rice – it was really good, nice and ripe, made fresh. They sell homemade pastries and serve takeout in the front. The food grade was a “B” – “B” for best!Pros + prompt service, parking lot in front, fresh foodCons – lack of ambience
Toast has really great food, so there are always a lot of people there. They have a good selection of coffee, muffins, egg dishes, etc.in a relaxed atmosphere. It is a great place to take in a relaxing breakfast. The only problem is that on a Saturday or Sunday morning, when you really want to enjoy that relaxed atmosphere with a coffee and a paper, you’ll have trouble parking on 3rd street and then have to wait on line for a while before you can get in because the place is always mobbed because it’s so good. Toast has a lot of babies and families with strollers, particularly on the weekend. It’s a more quiete on weekdays. If you’re going on the weekend, try to get there by 8:30.
I love the food and drinks at Literati, and I live close by so I always order take-out from them. EVERY SINGLE TIME I have ordered it, though, they have messed up my order. The first time they gave me the wrong order. The next time they left out my side salad. Then they were out of shrimp, but didn’t tell me when I ordered the shrimp linguine on the phone, and when I came to get it they said, “Umm…is it ok if we put chicken in your linguine instead?”The next time I ordered shrimp linguine, it was smothered with cheese when I got it. I hate cheese. The menu didn’t say there was cheese, it had never come with cheese before, but that day someone covered it in cheese. They left out the bread a few times, too.So I probably sound dumb for continuing to go back for more, but the food really is good. Just make sure you check your takeout orders before you take them home, because chances are something will be wrong.Pros + good menu, lots of choices, nice cafe ambienceCons – horri
I don’t agree with some of the reviews. The food is great, there are TV’s everywhere. Sox nation is alive and well at Fenner’s. The staff is awesome. I’m from out of town on business. I drive 45 minutes to watch all the games here when I’m in town. Great setting on the beach. Some open air seating.Plenty of room and everyone is welcome. Last Sunday I watched the Pats, then stayed for the Sox playoff game. Wicked awesome! Here’s a tip, don’t get too drunk and you won’t get thrown out. Pros + Sox and Pats games always. The staff are Sox and Pats fans.. Great seafood. Awesome sports bar. Great location on the beach.Cons – Every now and then the bottled beer is not cold enough. Need to plan ahead for big crowds.
