Where is the Best Singles Scene in Austin, Texas?
Hey guys, sorry to break the news but we haven’t had karoke here on a regular basis in over a year. It was popular for awhile, but no one seems to want to pay a cover to hear non-professional crooning and we needed to rent a PA and pay the DJ.We do host karaoke with a live band sporadically for special occasions so keep and eye out for posters advertising it, and other carefully-chosen live bands. Come play on the patio where the dark red lighting makes everyone look hot, the drinks aren’t watered down and the playlist isn’t controlled by people who will play “Hotel California” twice an hour.p.s. So in the heart of Austin party zone down an alley that looks unclean is the entrance to Speakeasy. You walk in this poorly designed club where you are ushered to walk by the bar in a small cramped place once the club gets going. You see guests from college hipsters, old bikers with ridiculouly long bleached hair (dudes), to the I’m still cool yuppy crowd out before their babysitter time is up.Downstairs is just not very nice and it looks like part is under construction (I hope). You then walk up 3 flights to the roof where a Miami feel starts (so out of place with downstairs). Kind of nice albeit the fans don’t help with the heat at all.Note – get misters. Now.We sat with friends for a party and were moved across the polace to a new seating that opened up….2 chairs to us. Why we listened to the manager I have no idea. They seem young.Our waitress would squeeze up to the table with our special order drink and basically stood with her behind in one person’s face. Uh, hel
This is the hot new spot on West 6th! They make great cocktails and have cocktail waitresses for the back table area; I’m still working my way through their menu of unique sharing plates; and there is always a great crowd of fun, hip young professionals. I’ve been there a number of times for Happy Hours and ended up staying there the rest of the night. The atmosphere is so comfortable and they play great music, its hard to leave! And they have a VIP section set off to the side which is a great spot to reserve for a birthday party or group event (I brought my coworkers here a few weeks ago for a company HH)…has comfy seats, flat panel TVs but its not totally cut off from the rest of the bar — so you can still keep your eye on the cute guy/girl across the room! JBlacks has only been open for about 2 months but i think they’ve got staying power for this area and clientele. I think you were in the wrong spot, if you voted less than 5 stars. Yes, the bar opens at 9, but honestly who wants a hyped up scene right at 9. The reason why I love this bar so much, is because after work I can go to a happy hour with the team from work, and if a few of us want to go somewhere after happy hour, we’ll head over to Firehouse. It’s clean, it’s cozy, at 9 it’s not too loud, the bar staff is friendly and hot, and on a couple of occassions I’ve gone there alone. I don’t mind heading there alone, because I know the barstaff will keep me company until my friends get there, or I meet new ones. It’s an awesome place to be yourself at. Single, Married, Dating, Gay/Lesbian/Bi/Confused/Straight, it doesn’t matter. It’s a very mature 21+ bar, with a healthy, fun, and beautiful environment. Everyone I bring into Firehouse is always impressed with the bartenders, because they shake your hand, they greet you by name, and they don’t forget it, another reason why I like to arrive earl
The bands are usually very good. Dance space is limited and they have tables on the dance floor. Also, when bands like Suede play people fill the dance floor and just watch.. People, this is a COVER BAND.. let the people who want to dance use the dance floor. I would like to see management control this more. All it takes is an announcement that the floor is for dancing, you can watch from anywhere. Another complaint is with the smoking in the bar area. I realize they somehow have special permission to allow smoking, but you really need to ban CIGARS from the area since you spent all the money on having a CIGAR ROOM to smoke in. There is nothing more offensive than a Ahnold Schwartzennegar wannabe pretending to smoke his cheap stogie in a crowded room. Lastly, the bartenders can be slow. It’s not uncommon for them to be chatting amongst themselves when there is a line 3 deep at the bar waiting for service. If they address these three issues, its a great place for the 30 to 55 crowd..
