Where is the Best See and Be Seen Bar in Oakland, California?
This neighborhood has been crying out for a new, upscale bar, and now they’ve got it! Replacing the old Fifth Amendment, which had been closed for more than a year, Easy brings cool sophistication to Lakeshore / Trestle Glen. The decor is somewhat minimal but very nice and warm, with many elements (including the textiles and hand-blown chandeliers) created by local artists. The liquor selection is varied and deep – it’s easy to spend a lot or a little there.The crowd is a bit older than most hip bars, and heavily professional. It’s very racially diverse, like the neighborhood, with about half of the clientele being black. There have been some allegations that the bar, which replaced an old-school all-black blues club, isn’t diverse enough, but one glimpse of the crowd puts that to rest (remember, the bar opened at the end of Oakland’s racially-polarized mayoral election). Thursday night. Dj Trick is right on the mark. He played songs I havn’t heard 4-ever. If you ask him nice nice, he might play your fav song from the past. Drinks were great, and everyone I met was totally cool. Neat place inside, I was surprised that Alameda had it going on like that. I was staying at a nearby hotel for work, and stopped by the Cosmopoliton Cafe because of it’s location. Nice ambiance, two decently sized bar areas and as well as a lounge-ish eating area in addition to the main dining room. I had the Goat Cheese Gnocchi which was very delicious. Decent menu and drinks, service was a little less than friendly but overall I would recommend it as a good stop if you’re in the area.Pros + good food, good drinks, nice atmosphereCons – a bit pricey for what you get
This is a bar with a kitchen in the back. The lines can be long , so a wait at the bar is common, and the bar has everything you need. When you are seated the wine list is very creative and the flights of wines , beers or spirits are lovely. Oh yes they also serve food. The menu varies week to week this a few staples.I always order the mussles in pernod, the rillettes are done very fatty in the french style (not everyone’s cup of tea), as a rule the offereing vary from the amazing to the mearly good. You can sit in the dark swoopy art nouveaux inspired front room which shares space with the bar at tables for four, or the common table down the middle. If you want a bit more space and quiet, ask to be sat in the more staid back room, which is basically the old deck behind the house that has been tented.
