Where is the Best Seafood in Austin, Texas?
This is an excellent restaurant to take your significant other or your loved one for fine dining. It has dim lighting, an intimate setting?.the ambiance perfect. The cuisine along with the presentation of it all is exquisite. Nothing on the menu will leave you disappointed; even the water they serve is fantastic?.it?s the best I?ve ever had. The only downside to the restaurant is the service. Please understand my critique is solely based on one that existed from dining in a large group. I should also mention that I frequent fine restaurants on the regular, so I have an idea of what to expect. I feel that a restaurant of this price and caliber, the service could have been much swifter and taken to the next level. There was about a 30-minute lag in between courses, crumbs were never cleared from the table, and the piece de resistance was when the food to be taken home was presented in a plastic white grocery bag. My boyfriend and I love to go eat at Clear Springs. Every time we go to float the river we make sure to stop here on our way back to Houston. The restaurant is always busy but the food is amazing. The onion rings are to die for and what they are known for. The restaurant is decorated in old time decor and antiques which is really cool to look at while eating. Food is served on disposable plates so it is not fancy and you can come in and have a good time.I didn’t know that Gruene River Grill was associated with them until I read these reviews but that place is just as good. The cuisine (notice I did not say food) was exquisite. My only issue with out visit was the service. I was having a bad day, so I certainly will not hold it against them. With only three tables present when we arrived, our greet time was a little long. Our appetizer arrived with our entree which annoyed me and the high-ball glasses jammed packed full of ice did not leave much room for iced tea. However, I said I was cranky that evening so ignore that part. The great part was the crisp tasty Gyoza (dumplings). We chose pork for our filling. They were crispy on the outside and filled with yummy stuff on the inside. I had the Tofu Pad Thai. It was a little spicy, which I like. The tofu was a little chewy, but the flavors were awesome. My dinner partner had the red curry chicken. It could have used a little more kick, but every Thai place is different and you are always cautious about ordering too hot. My husband surprised me by making reservations at Truluck’s for my birthday. I had been craving great seafood for some time. As an appetizer we ordered shrimp cocktail which arrived in a steamy cloud of dry ice. They were plump and meaty. The sauce had a pleasant kick. I ordered the Alaskan King Crab with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. The crab was delicious and meaty and was neatly cut down the middle so I didn’t get too messy. The potatoes were very flavorful. The asparagus was the only let down of the night – stringy and too soft. My husband ordered the center-cut sirloin 8 oz well done. Very tender and flavorful and didn’t require any additional sauces. We were both impressed that the maitre’d served the steak and waited till my husband cut into the center to see if it was satisfactory. Our waiter did an excellent job as well. We go to Ciola’s at least once a week and consider ourselves resident “regulars”… we don’t go for the food, although we do eat a lot of the time we come in. (best cesear salad in town, hands down.) Sit at the bar- we have fantastic service at the tables, but the bar staff is the reason we chose to go there half the time. Lonnie, the sarcastic, and Chanel, the sweet girl-behind-the bar will take good care of you! Drinks are great, atmosphere is dark wooded, velvet curtained, and fantastically tavern-like. Baseball memoribila lines the walls, and in the late afternoons/early evenings, the bar is filled with the “boys club” of the local golf courses emptying out 12:00 tee time players. They all seem to gather at Ciola’s at the end of the day, to have a cocktail or share an appetizer.
