Where is the Best Sandwich in Orange County, California?
to get away from the soul numbing confines of chain restaurants in Orange County. We ducked in on a weeknight for a late dinner, a difficult task in O.C. where a lot of restaurants close by 9pm. Hip retro dining room. The pork porterhouse was very good… a nicely grill pork chop with a cherry wine reduction, paired with polenta and braised red cabbage. The menu is full of interesting dishes that I’ll definitely go back to try.
I have been eating at the cottage for 43 years. It has undergone changes but some how stayed the same. The Food is always good, it is always clean and thank goodness no one has tried to “modernize it, it is a familiar friend and my favorite place at the beach.. I do miss the Omellete Melvin, it no longer is on the menu. It is not a fancy place, but the locals all know it I am sure. I come from the inland empire just to enjoy the “familiar” feeling. I don’t think a place has to be the “Ritz” to be special. I don’t think I will ever stop eating there or at the very least stopping by for a cup of coffee.
Just became a vegetarian a few months ago and have never realized how hard it is to find vegan or vegetarian restaurants. I’ll say that my dish was great, “chicken” with glass noodles. Yum, it really did look and taste like chicken. My bf had the sizzling rice dish, and it tasted a little burnt, and had a TON of cilantro in it, an herb neither of us like at all, and probably something they should specify on the menu if theyre going to use so much of it. Service was friendly…but as soon as we got our food, and finished, we literally did not get a visit from the two girls there for at least 20 minutes. We sat there, empty plates in front of us for an eternity. Which I might understand if they were busy, but there were 5 tables sat. One girl running to the back making boba smoothies, the other one chatting with the same table for at least 10 minutes. I WILL go back for the food, but most likely will pick it up to go. A pleasant place that looks obviously like a family operation, serving Philly cheesesteaks and other sandwiches. The sandwich I had was a cheesesteak with onions for $5.05, it was absolutely fantastic. It was served on a bun that was smaller than a traditional sub – which surprised me – but it was clearly a full meal. Every part of the sandwich was delicious; even the onions were done really well (cooked and chopped almost to the point of liquefaction — mmm), and it was worth the longer-than-expected wait — I could tell that every bit of that time was spent in preparation. I will surely be back, and I may force myself to try something else next time.
