Where is the Best Sandwich in Cleveland, Ohio?
Coventry is changing — becoming more corporate, more homogenized and ever more gentrified. One resident of the East Side neighborhood that isn’t changing or going away though is Grum’s. This popular establishment located on the corner of Coventry Road and Mayfield has been serving submarine sandwiches since 1977. The shop itself is quite simple, consisting of only a couple of benches, a cooler, a deer’s head on the wall and a counter lined with Grum’s small army of sandwich makers. Credit cards aren’t accepted, and everything’s take-out. Yes, unlike the cushy atmosphere of the chain restaurants along the street, people don’t come to Grum’s for the decor. The locals and visitors that have made themselves regulars are here strictly for Grum’s great grub
Having moved away from Cleveland several years ago, I miss the phenomenon of gigantic corned beef sandwiches at Slyman’s and a handful of other Cle deli’s. Slyman’s is just the best. My Husband and I travel quite a bit and we just had landed in Cleveland to visit some friends. They took us to this little Bistro for Dinner before a play.. We were surprised to see such masterful cooking coming out of a small Cleveland restaurant. I have dined at the best in New York, Chicago and L.A. and by far this was the best meal of the year for me. We all stated with the Greek Platter , creative yet good……..and my husband and i tried the Greek Surf & Turf , what a creative dish. I was full but not stuffed what a great little place you have there.
