Where is the Best Salad in Portland, Oregon?
Mothers is what I would describe as one of the perfect dining experiences in Portland, if you go on the weekends order the eggs benny I like to add avocado to mine, which has never been a problem. You want it you get it. If you go for lunch the chopped liver is to die for, ” if you like chop liver”, if not the best thing about Mothers is there is something for everyone, from burgers to salads to eggs and bacon. Just go!Pros + Amazing food, great service, and cocktailsCons – you have to smell the amazing food while you order
Clay’s Smokehouse has a different take on the sides, but the usual barbecue meats are all there–good pork ribs, brisket, chicken, etc. They have one mild sauce that, if you’re used to fiery hot spice, you may not love, but at least it’s a balanced sauce. It’s a comfortable atmosphere, and I’ve always experienced good service there.Definitely try Clay’s Smokehouse. You can see my complete review at BBQPDX on Blogspot.Pros + Tasty barbecue, especially the chicken.Cons – One sauce only, very different sides that you will either love or hate.
This was my first time in Portland and went to the Ringside for my birthday dinner. I had the chicken breast balsamico and it was the GREATEST chicken I’ve ever had and will probably ever have!!! everyone elses food was spectacular as well. Just some drawbacks…..the service was friendly but the waiter took a VERY long time with everything and we barely saw him throughout the meal. We had a reservation at 9:30pm, so by the time we got there, the restaurant was pretty much cleared out. We were also never given the wine list until after the dinner was over with and we were given the dessert menu with the wine list on the other side. VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!! Pros + Great food. Nice ambience.Cons – Very slow service. Not too attentive.
The beer and the service are both very good. Where this place falls down a bit is on the food. The food is not bad, it’s just not worth trying to find parking in the Hawthorne area to eat here. With the English style beers, this place cries out for beer batter fish and chips. Apparently they don’t have a deep fat fryer. The “chips” they serve are called “crispy heirloom potatoes”, they are really Yukon Golds cut in half and sauteed. Not heirloom, not crispy. The hamburger is prepared in the French style, which means the house ground chuck is as tall as it is wide. The problem is there is not enough surface area for a good char, and too narrow for the huge (and dry) bun. Since the hamburger is so narrow, you get a very small amount of cheese and most bites are the bun. Forget about fresh-cut fries with that burger, they are served with Kettle brand potato chips or soup. The French onion soup was pretty good, as was the Caesar salad. This is not a place however to relax and linger over b
