Where is the Best Salad in New Orleans, Louisiana?
I think Cafe Rani is fabulous…. I’ve eaten there a number of times and have never been disappointed. HOWEVER! If you are a vegetarian, please make sure your server knows it. Because even some of the things on the vegeatrian menu aren’t totally vegetarian (the rice is cooked in chicken broth, the potato salad has ham in it, etc…). The awesome servers will be glad to help you out completely — they certainly go the extra mile. But make sure you ask. And then ENJOY!Pros + healthy menu, courtyard dining, good brunchCons – hidden meat
It’s also a retail cooking store and does cooking classes in the evening. There is always something going on at this place that would be of interest to any cook (experienced or beginner). For lunch, I had the meatloaf sandwhich –absolutely delicious– and on a second visit, the vegetable sandwhich at the recommendation of my waitress. The food is so fresh and apparently it’s all local too. The ambience in a little confusing, as it is also a store, and there is a lot of staff always wandering around and typing on their laptops (looked more like a coffee shop than a restaurant!). The service was terrific, as I got the same waitress both times I visited–very knowledgable of the food and enthusiastic (ask for Mariana–a complete sweetheart!). A fun experience, allow extra time to get side-tracked in the store!Pros + quality of food and shopping experienceCons – parking, ambience
Bravo Chef Duke:Chef Duke made our first trip back to New Orleans since katrina wonderful. My husband was a bit disappointed when he did not see his favorite dish on the Menu but was more than happy to try something new. Our waiter talked with Chef Duke and he came out to our table and offered to fix it for him. It was fantastic….worth the trip from Wisconsin alone. The atmosphere is incredible. We had a wonderful romantic evening at Cafe Giovanni….we will return again and again. Thank you Chef Duke and your great staff.SincerelyChristopher and Leona WaserWisconsin
My review is pretty similar to the others here: Horrible service!I took my girlfriend here for her birthday. Bad idea. The hostess was rude from the minute we walked in the door. We were seated at one of the tiny tables. This would have been okay if we were not neglected. After I flagged down a waiter, we got an appetizer order in. 20 minutes later they brought us the wrong appetizer! We finally got the crab cakes, which were really pretty good.Had our food been brought out with in a reasonable time following our appetizer, I probably would not be on City Search writing this negative review. However, after waiting over an hour, we were pretty frustrated. I was sitting pretty close to the kitchen and could see at least 10-15 ready meals just sitting at the counter. Was one of them ours? I asked and was told by the informative waiter that they were real busy tonight and our food would be out in a minute. Really? How come the tables on either side of us were empty?! Af
