Where is the Best Salad in Hartford, Connecticut?
My husband and I live in New York ? Arugula is our favorite restaurant in CT! We dine there every time we?re in town visiting family. It?s a small restaurant, so it?s cozy, warm, beautifully decorated, and a great place for a romantic dinner.The cuisine is magical – You can tell the chef put her heart and soul into this bistro. Must Have?s: the roasted eggplant and wonton napoleon, the grilled calamari, the duck confit and Andouille sausage flat bread, and the Chilean Sea Bass or the Seared Tuna entrees. Bring your appetites however; the portions are quite generous (and priced reasonably)! The waiters are very helpful in explaining the four-page menu (!) and with offering recommendations; they are also very attentive without being intrusive.No liquor is served, but there is a wonderfully eclectic wine list (also affordable and approachable). Tisane has evolved over the years: boho/hipster joint, upscale teahouse/eatery, gay mecca, martini bar. It retains features of all of these but can’t be readily pigeonholed as any of them. The entrees are quite varied, uniformly delicious and moderately pricey. Drinks are reasonably priced. Service can be spotty, though regulars do get noticeably better service and iffy service seems to be confined to busy evenings. Most common server sin seems to be “slow to approach”. Minor peeve: music tends to be overly loud.Things to bear in mind about Tisane: – The place tends to fill up fast in the evenings, especially Tu, Th, Fr, and Sa. – The immediate parking lot is quite small and also tends to fill up. After 8.00 PM, parking for Tisane is allowed on the Wash Tub side of the parking lot; prior to this, you risk being towed. The parking lot of the set of stores across Farmington Avenue has designated parking spaces for Farmington Ave. businesses, including Tisane. – Whil
OK, I grew up in the Bronx and ate Jewish deli pretty much all the time every week from the time I was a small child. I am now 50 years old and living in Connecticut. That said, I am a “tough room” when it comes to such deli. In spite of that, Rein’s has my heart for satisfying the memory of my youth. Dining here is like stepping into a time machine – Like going back to a deli in the Bronx circa 1972! OK, it’s not Katz’s or Carnegie when it comes to the pastrami and rye, but what on earth is even close to that? I don’t expect a place like Rein’s, with it’s apple-cheeked, blonde, blue eyed staff to live up to that (I still laugh at that given that I’m used to a 60-something balding, paunchy Jewish man wearing a gray jacket). Especially not in Vernon of all places! But on the other hand, considering where it is and who is preparing the food, this is pretty good stuff, and pretty authentic. We’ve been to Houlihan’s for family parties, girls’ night out, and romantic dinners for two, and we always leave wanting to come back. The food is awesome, the service is fantastic, and the price is always right. Well decorated dining room, spacious bar/lounge, and a really nice large patio for open-air dining. You’ve got to try the Thai Wings and the Fried Asparagus!Pros + You’ll love it all!Cons – It’s best to make reservations in case there’s an event taking place at the Holiday Inn.
