Where is the Best Salad in Austin, Texas?
We went to Hickory Street Bar and Grill last night and were impressed by the outside seating but the inside left a bit to be desired. The place was not very busy (probably 25% full) yet the food bars were in desperate need of attention and the floors were in definite need of a broom. The food, on the other hand, was very good and there were large portions. The price is good for the amount of food you get. We will go back, but I hope a rep from HSB&G reads this and calls his cleaning crew:)Pros + Good and plenty foodCons – place needs to be cleaned more often
What’s ‘Austin Stoner Food’? It’s food prepared by someone who thinks more is better. Let’s make a filet mignon with mashed potatoes and veggies. Now, let’s put some blue cheese on the meat. Hey, let’s put some sweet potato on there too. Hey, let’s throw an enchilada on the plate and maybe a samosa too! Now, let’s throw a few more flavors and elements on the plate just ?cause I?m stoned and it sounds good?Okay, seriously, my main criticism is, that while bold, the plates overwhelm the palate with too many, not necessarily harmonious elements and lack sophistication. My favorite part of dining here is the very reasonable wine list. I?ve found the service good as well. I should add I did like it as a lunch spot. Even the ?1000 flavor salad? I had (don?t remember which one I really had).Pros + Wine PricesCons – Too many flavors/elements on a plate
Chez Nous is small but the staff is very attentive and the food is great. You do not find sweet breads on many menus but here they are wonderfully prepared. The escargot and the duck mousse pate are excellent. We did have to wait a bit but stood at the bar and had wine. Highly recommend.Pros + Excellent StaffCons – Parking; Hilton hotel is a half block away and has available parking
