My Fiance and I thought we would get out of the cities for a change of pace. Neither of us has ever stayed at the St James before so we thought we’d give it a try. We booked their “Victorian” package which included a $10 coupon for “Jimmy’s” bar, three course dinner (our choice) from the regular menu in the “Port” restaurant, and full breakfast in the “Veranda”. The rooms were adequate although we half expected a King rather than a Queen bed. Don’t worry about the view, the windows are too small to really get much chance for a good view anyway. The best part of the entire experiance was the dinner. Executive Chef Julian Grainger, formerly of Hilton’s “Carvers” has been given somewhat of a free range of the kitchen to prepare what he wishes. Many of the items on the menu are recognizable from “Carvers” and were wonderfully prepared. Our appetizer, one of the specials for that night, was Twice Baked Lobster Tail and was superb. This hotel is underwhelming given the alternatives in the nearby vicinity. Our company no doubt selected it because of a favorable conference deal, but the room itself was at a rate almost identical to several other hotels down the street that offer much newer facilities and better locations. My husband and I went to the Inn for dinner on Fri. night, the day after Valentine’s Day. I thought it was very beautiful, romantic, and cozy. My husband thought the steak he had was a little grisly, but my tenderloin was perfect. Also, the wedge salad was delicious. Overall, we had a great time. Can’t wait to go back and stay overnight next time!

My husband and I had a wonderful experience at the Rivertown Inn this past Saturday night. We have stayed at several Stillwater inns in the past, and so far this is one of our favorites. We stayed in the Lord Byron Suite – it was beautiful, clean and meticulously appointed. We were especially impressed with the quality and comfort of the bed – it was heavenly! The double whirlpool was huge and filled quickly. The breakfast was outstanding – although it was very rich for the first meal of the day. But we loved it anyway. The staff was all friendly and professional (we did not meet the owners). All in all, I would highly recommend the Rivertown Inn.Pros + Luxurious rooms, gourmet breakfast, complimentary wine & cheese “happy hour”Cons – a bit expensive

There are some very good things about the Water Street Inn and some dissappointing things. I don’t expect a hero’s welcome when I check in to a hotel or other lodging, but at this place it was like they were doing me a favor. The lady who checked us in was crabby. She didn’t acknowledge us until I stood there…
