Let me start off by saying that I’m more of someone who would rather make a pan of brownies than have a crystallized web of sugar and a bite sized cake, but the Whitney really tries. For this I give…

This is a place to go to if you want a really good martini. The service is really good and drinks are very reasonable. The people there are …

That’s just a start for the good news. My bride and myself hadn’t been at Marias since it was under Buddy”s ownership. Followed the owners Joanie and Carl from Detroit (Grand River location) into Ferndale after its closure there-never take a local boxing promoter as a partner as they tend to feed clientele and skip paying the tab.Anyway, we made reservations for 12-13 not knowing if we would be facing a dinner rush composed of “Mariaites” or newbies trying out something new. For this day reservations were not really necessary. The classic funky decor which we were familiar with was gone replaced with a more open floor plan and lighting system that was uniform. Alas, my donated ukulele was no longer nailed to the wall nor any other musical instruments. Our waitress seemed somewhat distant in attitude she didn’t appear to be an ambassador for a new-ownership business place that one would think might be a starting point for attracting new customers. Not that we want waitstaff to hove

Pretty good food but alas, it is overpriced. Seems to be the norm for this area. Although not the best of the metro Detroit Italian restaurants but one of the top five or six for sure. Certainly the best around the Southfield/Birmingham/Bloomfield area. Whatever you do, don’t let the owner pick your wine or dinner as he is not shy about $$$.Cons – Overpriced

This place is not good and expensive.I dont normally comment on these kind of sites but felt I should as it was so poor. The piped music was on CD which kept jumping and no one botherd to sort it out…Very annoying. They then served Cod as Halibut. When i noted it the chef, who had no idea, suggested that maybe the halibut is different in the US to Europe(I am English) ….Oh Please.I may be English BUT I am not a moron and I am also a chef by profession! They gave me a jar of sauce by way of an apology but all I really wanted was halibut or a credit for the “fake fish”The service matched the food. One to avoid.Pros + I never have to go backCons – Ever
