Where is the Best Romantic Dining in Albuquerque, New Mexico?
Based on previous reviews, I requested table 4 and it did provide a very enjoyable setting for our anniversary dinner. We arrived earlier than our reservation but were seated immediately. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The menu has numerous tempting choices, but we decided on the Chateaubriand for Two. It was perfectly cooked to our liking and was well complemented by the Caymus Cabernet, which was fairly priced. The staff was very attentive and we were asked by 3 different people if everything was to our liking. We had the dessert sampler plate and the chocolate mousse, key lime pie and creme brulee managed to disappear although neither of us had room for them. Our only quibble is that we felt somewhat rushed. Pros + excellent beefCons – felt rushed
This is my favorite Albuquerque restaurant; I love the combination of an unpretentious space and top-notch food. Normally I’ve received impeccable service. On my most recent visit, which fell on a not-too-busy Friday, we had to wait 20 minutes despite the fact that we’d (2) made reservations (two people w/o reservations were seated ahead of us). Grr…While the hostess is inexperienced, the wait-staff is truly excellent: I’ve never had anything but the most efficient, friendly, well-informed, and non-obtrusive table service. I’ve found THE BEST and the NOT-SO-MUCH on the menu–on a recent visit, I passed up the wonderful ravioli for the boring “Mexican prawns” (lovely fresh seafood overwhelmed by a heavy, blah corn/ marinara sauce) and deeply regretted it. The chef seems to live in fear of “spicy,” particularly a propos SW-inspired dishes. For carnivores, (I’m a “mostly”-vegetarian–there are options, but limited ones) Artichoke seems to have the best steak in ABQ. The desserts
Not necessarly a place to take the kids BUT for a couple it is very romantic. You can’t rush fondue so it is a whole evening experience. Reservations are really a must because they are busy almost every night and when you make your reservations for 2, ask for a table in the “honeymoon section”. It is a wonderful area with private booths and lots of atmosphere. I HIGHTLY recommend this for that special meal out.
My friend who lives in Santa Fe described this as one of the best restaurants. It was certainly one of the most over priced. We were shocked that the arugula salads we ordered had a fried onion ring stuck on top. The waiter told us that the chef had just acquired fresh morel mushrooms from Oregon which influenced our choice of the braised veal osso bucco for the main course. Well, sadly, the morel mushrooms were coated and fried which totally destroyed the flavor and made them almost unrecognizable. The cous cous (supposedly Israeli but more like Palestinian) was bland as were the fava and peas mixed in. The osso bucco was tender and seasoned well.The waiter was friendly and did his best to compensate for a $200 meal (including wine) that was barely worth half of that amount.
