Where is the Best Romantic Date Spot in Portland, Oregon?
I agree that it was crowded on valentine’s day, but isn’t that expected? We thought the staff did a good job adjusting to the high expectations of the fanciful holiday. Valentine’s was not our first time here, it is one of a handful we love (hence my husband taking me there for the occasion) and we thought the food and service met the high standards they have on any other night. We enjoyed the custom menu, something new and different for the holiday. As far as romance, we get that from each other, and didn’t find the other diners distracting, but perhaps the chaos of trying to meet unrealistic standards of tightwad boyfriends who are already bitter for having to take out their ladies, caused some unhappy exchanges. We however were quite pleased, the only reason I score 4 not 5 is I couldn’t have my favorite Panna Cotta, oh well – we will just have to go back I guess.
I was an accidental tourist. Made a wrong turn looking for gas off the beaten path. I alternated between cussing myself due to the needle on my gas gage pointing to EMPTY and breathlessly exclaming what a gorgeous camping area “I had discovered”. I kept reassuring myself that the promised gas station would surely appear as I continued to drive up, up and up! “Wow, I’ll just have to come back this way when I have a full tank of gas. So much like Devil’s Lake in Wisconsin!” “Oh no! Almost really sitting on EMPTY!” Now down, down and down. There’s the gas sign once again. Do I believe them this time or should I try for the freeway. Well worth the missed turns and anxiety over the empty gas tank! This was in the fall of 2004. I’ve “accidently” found myself there twice more.Pros + Breathtaking veiws.Cons – Parking
My husband and I stayed in Portland recently and picked Dante’s for their Saturday Night show – Subterranean Caberet. There was a Seattle group playing, and we found both the music and show to be very entertaining! It was my birthday and we were so lucky to wander in! The musicians, dancers, MC, and crowd were all upbeat and the atmosphere was friendly and in party mode. There was a very diverse crowd – all ages and style of dress from jeans and sweaters to short black dresses and heels. No baseball caps. Two drinks were 11.75 plus tip – pretty typical.I have two cons that I want to share with readers. The first is that the service at the large bar was horrible. I thought my husband was exaggerating about her rudeness, so I attempted to order the next round with no luck. She wasn’t busy, just leaning and chatting. Order from the small bar!Second, we decided to stay for the second show and all patrons staying were told to leave their coats at the tables (or lose your table) a
My fiancee surprised me with a trip up to Timberline for the night this past weekend. I found the staff to be absolutley accomadation and helpful. They went out of their way to get us what we needed. The grounds were well kept, but I will say the hiking paths were marked very poorly. We met several people who were lost. The room was cozy and had all the ammenities we needed. The beds were fantastic. The only draw back I found was the noise. A lot of people up late and very early making noise that sometimes sounded like it was in our room. The fine dining was just that, excellent. Would recomend.Pros + service, dining room, staffCons – noisy patrons/, thin walls, hiking trails
I called in advance to see if it was o.k. to bring our own birthday cake, which it was. Our party started rolling in at 8 pm. As our group expanded the wait staff found us more chairs until other near-by tables emptied out. No one had to wait long to order drinks that were top notch. I ordered some of the house’s specialty cocktails that were excellent – there bartenders know how to pour! Though most of us had already eaten, we ordered up a number of appetizers after a few rounds of drinks. The dates wrapped in bacon were perfect ( o hard crusty skins o the dates – they were warm and soft and melted in your mouth with a silky texture next to the smoky-saltiness of the bacon) We also got an anti-pasta platter that was nearly licked clean by the time we left. The kitchen dressed up the birthday cake and served it with a beautiful light fresh fruit garnish. They also found some birthday candles, which I had forgotten, and didn’t embarrass the birthday boy by singing – his friends took
