Where is the Best Romantic Bar in Portland, Oregon?
I met a girl on first date at the M Bar – at her suggestion. First off – It’s small! Or what I would call ‘intimate’. The acoustics are very good so any conversation taking place is fair game to anyone else in the establishment. Outside a being a tiny cash only place – it’s very cool. Warm, candle lit, with agreeable music playing. Non-smokers may be put off due to the size of the establishment and the lack of airflow (smoking is allowed inside). Luckily there are a couple outside tables to take advantage of. 4 star due to lack of ventilation – but I will be a return customer!Pros + Cheap prices (happy hour gives 3$ glasses) friendly occupantsCons – Very small, if you come with 5 or more people, you’ll fill half the place up.
My friend and I were in search of a good place for Happy Hour and decided to try the Empire Room. The place itself is cozy, cute, and somewhat romantic. We went during a time when business was slow, so the service was fairly fast. I ordered a lemon drop and felt it tasted a little watered down. My friend ordered the Butter Pecan which I thought was much better. We ordered artichoke dip and quesadillas. I thought the quesadillas were very tasty, however the artichoke dip was just so-so. We had a good time, the atmosphere was great, but it wasn’t the greatest food/drink I’ve ever had (at least as far as Happy Hour goes). Maybe I just ordered the wrong things.Pros + atmosphere, fast serviceCons – food was average, lemondrop was so-so
I met a client for lunch at Jo Bar because it was recommended to me by an acquaintance. Our server ordered the wrong kind of ravioli, so it took extra time for us to get our food. Since our lunch was running long, I gave our server my credit card. He ran my card and brought me the bill – I realized that he forgot to remove the wrong ravioli from the bill but still charged us for the right ravioli. It took a long time for me to get his attention. I finally got up and handed the bill to a different staff member who didn’t quite understand what was wrong and told me that he would send my server over. So, instead of my server being sent over – another server came by and totally talked to the “man” at the table and not me – trying to address the issue with him. WHAT??? It’s not like it would have taken an extra 2 seconds to look at the credit card and find out who was paying! My name is an obvious female name. Seemed a little chauvinistic, if you ask me.Not recommended for servic
I called in advance to see if it was o.k. to bring our own birthday cake, which it was. Our party started rolling in at 8 pm. As our group expanded the wait staff found us more chairs until other near-by tables emptied out. No one had to wait long to order drinks that were top notch. I ordered some of the house’s specialty cocktails that were excellent – there bartenders know how to pour! Though most of us had already eaten, we ordered up a number of appetizers after a few rounds of drinks. The dates wrapped in bacon were perfect ( o hard crusty skins o the dates – they were warm and soft and melted in your mouth with a silky texture next to the smoky-saltiness of the bacon) We also got an anti-pasta platter that was nearly licked clean by the time we left. The kitchen dressed up the birthday cake and served it with a beautiful light fresh fruit garnish. They also found some birthday candles, which I had forgotten, and didn’t embarrass the birthday boy by singing – his friends took
