Where is the best place to install a smoke alarm?
The Ontario Fire Code states that “A smoke alarm must be installed between each sleeping area and the remainder of the dwelling unit, and where the sleeping areas are served by hallways, the smoke alarms shall be installed in the hallways.” The Office of The Fire Marshall recommends that homeowners install a smoke alarm on every level of their home and outside all sleeping areas. If any member of your household sleeps with their bedroom door closed, we recommend that you install a smoke alarm inside their bedroom as well, for maximum protection.
