Although Fairbanks often gets the mention as one of the best sites, there are actually any number of places one can see them from, even Anchorage, despite its lights. The main issue is finding a spot to watch from where the ambient light is as non-existent as possible, however. Fairbanks offers several tour type jaunts to areas where this is the case, but often with a cozy tent or cabin where you can rest while waiting for the lights to decide to show.
