Where is the Best Pizza in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania?
I only get to the Burgh about once a year since moving to Miami, and I have to tell you that this is one of the first stops we make. You have to make at least one trip to Vincent’s while visiting. The pizza crust is thick and chewy, the sauce is excellent, and the toppings. . . .oh, the toppings! To watch them make this pizza is a wonder. Handfuls – literally – of everything you order go on the pie. Fresh mushrooms, sliced pepperoni piled high (not the regular round cut pepperoni), huge pieces of sausage. . . and never mind the need to order extra cheese. Everything is extra here! A medium pie will generously feed 4 people and leave you stuffed! It was a challenge for me to eat 1 1/2 slices of this delight. And the price is more than reasonable. Unlike some pizzas, this is still great microwaved later, but you must get it fresh to experience pure pleasure. Yeah, yeah, yeah. . . I know that it is natural to think that the pizza you grew up with is the best there is, but I still think that Campiti’s beats any that I’ve had in the past 40+ years. I grew up around the corner and still go to Camp’s whenever I’m in the ‘burgh. I’ve taken my Chicago-raised kids there and they love it as have friends of theirs who have visited on their recommendation. The crust is hand rolled, the pepperoni is dumped on by the handful, the sauce is just right and the ambience is pure Pittsburgh. I love the Hoagies as well, especially baked. Now, if they would just get a decent selection of pop and bring back the long-gone sausage sandwich it would be beyond perfect.
Pizza House has the most interesting beginnings. The building is an old police station. Although it is strictly takeout/delivery, you’ll be hooked from the first bite-delivered to your door, or enjoyed at the little park down the street. The square crust can also be bought plain; your selection of toppings are heartily packaged for your own assembly at home. This crust is airy, with a crunchy outside skin the most delectable flavor I’ve ever found. Better than homemade, the sauce is not too sweet nor acidic. Toppings are heaped with reckless abandon. Buy it by the slice, quarter, half or whole; fresh from the oven ready to eat or cold, ready to assemble, your mouth will water in anticipation. Truly there is no better pizza in Pittsburgh. I’m glad there’s another Jioio’s. For some reason the Greensburg location has better food. The pizza at the Greensburg location tastes so much better than the one in Latrobe. The service is better and staff is also much nicer at the Greensburg location . What’s up with the poor service and bad attitudes at Latrobe? Pros + Better than the Latrobe Jioio’s!Cons – Food is a little overpriced.
