Where is the Best Pizza in Oakland, California?
Ate here last night with a group of 4. We arrived early but because the bar was packed went across the street and down half a block to a great little wine bar we noticed on the way in. We returned right at our reservation time and were seated immediately. After a fairly long wait the water buzzed by to take our drink order. In the interim we ended up asking some menu questions to the man filling our waters since he was the only one giving us attention. We all ordered pretty standard drinks but apparently they aren’t able to make some simple drinks like a cosmo or gimlet with lime. The drink menu is a bit old fashion, with a dozen whiskies and other drinks like cognac while having only two vodkas (obviously an intentional move) and a couple beers, though the wine selection is pretty good.Apps – The “La Tacera” salad was decent but smothered with too much dressing and too few apples and walnuts, while the “Puntarelle” was a bit bland and chopped into really small pieces. Chicago can officially take a hike. You’ve been outdone. There’s no shame in that. You’re pizza is good, but Zachary’s is amazing. How do they do it? Is it because they’re 100% employee owned? Is it because they sprinkle magic deliciousness into the sauce? I don’t know, and more importantly, I don’t care. Just keep the Spinach and Mushroom stuffed pizza coming my way. Don’t like Spinach and mushroom? At age six I wouldn’t eat a mushroom dipped in nacho cheese, but I would down this stuff like nobody’s business. This is one of those places were you probably never change your order, because it’s just too good to experiment with. If the pizza itself wasn’t enough to convince yourself, just take a look around the walls at the non-stop reviewers singing its praise. For the freshest, most delicious hand-made pasta in the Bay Area, don’t miss LoCoco — it is really one of the best Italian restaurants around. The Canneloni are worth the trip — filled with a mixture of cheeses, veal, and artichoke hearts, and surrounded by a flavorful sauce that makes you want to lick the plate so you don’t miss one drop. The Ensalada Imancipata is incredible — tender greens in a light vinaigrette dressing, with pecans, blue cheese, currants, and olives. We’ve come here numerous times (and had them deliver once) and always find the pizza to be delicious (and very light as far as pizza goes). The staff is incredibly friendly and the delivery guy was even nice enough to make 2 trips in order to break a $50 I had. The BBQ chicken and the pesto chicken and pesto veggie pizzas are awesome.
