Where is the Best People Watching in Charlotte, North Carolina?
Went to the Penguin last Friday. Both of us are new to Charlotte, and after seeing a clip about The Penguin on the Food Network, I suggested that we try it. First, we didn’t know were to park, but found a dirt lot near by. There was a huge line outside, but considering there were like 14 groups ahead of us, we didn’t wait long at all. The bar has great specials, $1.50 drafts, $5.00 yeunglin pitchers; they even have firefly, which appears to be hard to find in charlotte. The food is greasy but good. Fried pickles are “the thing to get,” but neither of us were that impressed. The area around the restaurant seemed really cool and like there was a lot to do nearby. As an avid Asian food fan, Japanese especially – we were really looking forward to this restaurant. The music was a little loud for our liking – but it suited the atmosphere, so that is just a personal choice. The service was quite quick and friendly, though this could have been due to it being a slow night.But the food – Miso soup no complaints. Goza – there was no dipping sauces to go with this ….. But the sushi platter was a different story. The sushi rice was dry and the fish was a little dry on the top – suggesting that this had not been made fresh. The ginger was so old and tasteless that it was merely for decoration. Overall – perhaps if you have never eaten Japanese, then you might like it here, however for those among us that actually know what good Sushi is like – then avoid eating here. Perhaps try their ‘other Japanese style’ dishes – though I wish you the best of luck with this. Pros + Serve Japanese beerCons – Sushi was dry
Eds is the epitome of a neighborhood bar located in the mostly residential area of Dilworth. They have something on the menu to please just about anyone. Their burgers are great, all of their sandwiches have something to say for themselves and their newest addition “Fried green beans” are out of this world. The drink specials are as good as you are going to get in the city here. Almost every day you can get a domestic bottle/draft for $2, sometimes even cheaper. I know at one point they had $1.50 Coors drafts. Eds is a pretty big place but it does fill up quickly from Thurs-Sunday especially if a game is on they will be busy from 11am-close in most situations. They have plenty of televisions with various games. They have pool, juke box, checkers and darts. Friendly atmosphere, cheap drinks, good food…great recipe.
