Where is the Best People Watching in Boston, Massachusetts?
My husband & I were looking for a nice date place. I’m 9 months pregnant & we won’t have the opportunity for a while, so after reading some reviews we decided to try Soma. We can’t wait to go back! The space is clean, simple & modern – but not that “trying too hard” mod some places go for. The waitstaff was competent, efficient, friendly, knowledgeable, but not intrusive. Although I cannot comment on the taste of the booze, I was jealous of all the options my husband had to choose from & can’t wait to go back to try them. The cocktail list is expansive & creative; the wine list is varied with many affordable choices; great beer selection – overall fantastic bar.As for the food, we chose to share 5 appetizers like a 5 course tasting menu, which they were totally cool with:Course 1 – Tempura fried stuffed squash blossoms over arugula with a citrus vinaigrette. Loved the seasonal, vegetal squash blossoms, creamy filling & light tempura batter. Wasn’t oily at all and the clean citrus dre
All in all, we were disappointed with Croma. We’ve heard good things and we expected more. Still, I must say that the three of at the table who ordered pizza were very satisfied. All other dishes, including our appetizers and salads were MEDIOCRE AT BEST. The service was nothing to write home about. In general, the service was on the slow side, but not a big deal (more time to relax and enjoy the conversation!). We had to ask for napkins and silverware when our appetizers arrived. We also had to request salt and pepper. We’re not certain we’ll return to the Croma in Boston, but I would recommend Croma for pizza and drinks (basically, skip apps and salads). We will definitely give the Plymouth Croma a try when we’re in that area. Maybe it was just a bad night … or new cook, so definitely give this place a try and decide for yourself. We all thoroughly enjoyed the pizza–it was outstanding. The pizza are personal size, but on a larger scale in my opinion — that is to say,
I love Restaurant Week. It’s a smidge of an addiction. I’ll book 3-5 ressies each of the weeks, and more often than not, I’ll go to all of them. I love a bargain, what can I say?Toro is the BEST deal for Restaurant Week.Reasons?1. You order off the real menu. No scraping the bottom of the freezer case, just cuz it’s cheapo week. The ENTIRE menu, too. Not just these 4 options. The whole. Darn. Thing. 2. The more people you go with, the more tapas you order. Go with a group of 3? Choose 1 app, 8 tapas, 1 dessert each. I was with a party of 5, I think we got something insane like 18 choices. Whatever it was, we were rolling out of there. 3. Fanastic wine list. Try something crazy. Also, the waitstaff is really helpful in this regard.4. The food is amazing. Ken Oringer doesn’t mess around. I endorse the “weird stuff”, aka tripe, beef heart, etc. Weird stuff is good, especially in tapas. Give it a try. Short list of faves: Ham-wrapped dates; corazon a la plancha; corn on the cob
