Where is the Best Over-30s Singles Scene in Los Angeles, California?
re: Club MoscowGot to the club around 11:30ish, there were a decent amount of people there though it wasn’t jam packed. Went straight to the bathroom, it was dark and the door didn’t seem to have a male/female sign on it… as I was finishing washing my hands, the door swung open and this bald bouncer dude yelled at me for going into the girl’s bathroom. I was like “it’s not even marked,” but whatever. Walked up to the lunge for some live music just as the music was ending, and then another bouncer came and kicked everyone out of said lounge because it was closing. Then we bought some drinks at the bar, and the guy who yelled at me for going into the wrong bathroom grabbed one of my friend’s drinks away because he thought she was underaged. (she wasn’t) Then at around 12:30 the club closed entirely and we were again yelled at to leave. I was like “it’s midnight on a Saturday, are you kidding?” though I suppose that was something we should’ve known beforehand.Overall, it seem
Went to this spot for the first time with a bunch of friends for a birthday celebration. It wasn’t super busy, which we didn’t expect on a sunday night and the music was a variety of live musicians performing “unplugged” style sets. The musicians were okay but nothing phenomenal. The ambience is amazing. Cool “old school” red leather booths and chairs and a padded red leather wall when you first walk in, candles all over, a long lit-up bar dominates the main room and there is also a side VIP room. My biggest complaint was the bartender. I ordered a Cosmo and it was dreadful. When I asked him why it was so sweet, he said he’d remake it with less simple syrup. I told him a Cosmo is supposed to have vodka, cranberry, triple sec and lime and no simple syrup. He proceeds to make me a vodka martini with splash of cranberry, and a wedge of lemon on the glass. Interesting, unique decor, very cool music, especially Willie’ McNeil’s band is fun and entertaining. Once you’re in, you’re pretty much on you own. Nobody will hound you for drinks, although the “absinthe fairies” carting the classic absinthe service around are appealing, even if the absinthe itself is not.Pros + Elegant, Interesting Decor, Cool Music, No Cover.Cons – parking downtown.
I always liked this spot; cool decor, attractive (if a little pretentious) crowd, just a fun hipster scene. That all went sour the last time we went. The bartender was noticeably drunk first of all. It took him several times to make my rum and coke (how hard is that?!) and had to keep asking what we had ordered. My friend was buying the first round. The total was $19 and all he had was a twenty dollar bill. He knew $1 tip wasn’t cool but the guy HAD messed up our drinks several times, and that’s all the cash he had. The drunken ‘tender held up the dollar and was like, “Oooh thanks” and kissed it all dramatically. I’m sorry, but that is just plain rude and unprofessional…not to mention being drunk on the job.
