Where is the Best Outer Borough Restaurant in New York, New York?
The one thing working against Bistro 33 is its size- the place is downright small. That being said, the service is pretty good, the specialty cocktails are tasty, the ambiance is nice, but it’s the food that takes it to the next level. The sushi rolls are inventive combinations that work well together. I heart a place that can serve duck that has a crispy skin but isn’t greasy. The special foi gras burger was so decadent I just might burst a vein if I had it more than twice a year. None-too-pleased with the lamb chops though; they were prepared too rare for me. Outer boro is the place to go for good eats. Hop on the N and go on an adventure.Pros + Great sushi rolls, great specials.Cons – Quite small, not good for parties larger than 4.
I heard some very nice things about The Farm, and so, on the spur of the moment, I took the Q train over there to check out the restaurant this past Saturday. It’s on Cortelyou Road, several blocks down from the train station in a part of Brooklyn that seems more like a small town in a different state. There are beautiful Victorians on the side streets, several shops (although not many), and The Farm itself is a small, laid-back restaurant, with understated but comfortable decor. I was seated right away next to the open doors to the pretty little garden in the back, and it was the perfect autumn day for it. I ordered the delicious French toast, served with fresh strawberries and maple syrup, and had some refreshing Mountain Mint Green Tea. I had the blonde waitress, and couldn’t find any fault with her (as another reviewer did). She was pleasant and attentive, and asked me how everything was. Came here during the wk on my day off for lunch and saw they had a $16 pre fixe lunch special which was – glass of wine, soup, entree, and coffee. We found this deal to be strange considering most places w/ pre fixe specials give u a larger choice for appetizer at least, not just soup. After looking at the menu, we found some of the appetizers to be too tempting so we each got the mango shrimp salad and split 1 pre fixe lunch special. Piggys I know. Unfortunately every entree had an additional $2-6 supplement which was annoying so we decided on the Chicken Sandwich.Breakdown:2 Mango shrimp salad – good, dressing was a little sweet but not bad ($9ea)1 Butternut squash soup – nice big bowl, very tasty, highly recommend it1 CHICKEN SANDWICH w/ zucchini, tomato, mozzarella, salad & french fries – actually pretty darn good for just a chicken sandwich+ 1 ice tea = $46 inc. tipour lunch was def. not cheap but I was happy w/ the food.
