We loved staying at this one of a kind hotel on our recent visit to Portland. Each room is in a converted classroom and all are spacious and uniquely decorated. My husband loved examining all the original art, much of it inspired by the schools long history in the community. It would be perfect for a school reunion! Dinner and breakfast were both delicious. Breakfast was included, as was entry to a movie. Our one disappointment was that Oregon liquor laws prevented our 12 year old son from watching a film in the evening, since drinks and pizza are served in the theater.Pros + Unique, Free Parking

Yawn, I want to like this bar because its so close to my house, the drinks are good, the food and atmosphere is nice, but god damn it the service is snide, and snubby. If you like being treated like a dirty little step child, like you did’nt grow up in Portland, and moved here last week like everyother hipster 20-30 something around here-you’ll love it. I’ll take any dive bar around here with real service instead. If you don’t like the service industry, don’t serve folks. I’ll chalk this place into the bad naughty pooty catagory where it can reside with the likes of Dots, Genies, and a few more. I’m not alone. A little more V, and a little less Vendetta toward your customers.Nuff said.Pros + good placeCons – bartenders need replacement

Since the original tavern burned down, the Mcmenamins have done an excellent job rebuilding. I think it looks even better than before. Drinks are pricey and measured out, the beer is the normal Mcmenamins brew. It’s a cool spot and the pool table is great if there’s no one playing. (rented by the hour) Pros + Hidden

I meet at the Lucky Lab on Quimby every month with a large group of people (average 20.) We are kind of noisy but no one seems to mind. There is a great selection of beer on tap. The food isn’t the best in the world, but has always been appropriately cooked. They offer some neat sandwich options. I wasn’t impressed with the corn chowder- it wasn’t thick at all. The waitstaff are attentive, but not talkative.Overall- a great place for groups but probably not somewhere you’d want to go for just dinner.Pros + large beer selection, great for groups, interesting sandwichesCons – the corn “chowder,” can get drafty, can get noisy
