I was looking to improve my diet and lose some weight, so I signed up for a 6 month program with Kendra. She made me feel very comfortble, and created a program that focused on my weaknesses. She also went above and beyond to help with me with random requests, like sporadic gym sessions, going to the grocery store with me and dining out at a healthy restaurant. I ended up losing the weight i wanted to lose, and also have a much better awareness of my diet and how different foods affect me. Kendra is a wealth of knowledge, but a real person who understands how real people eat. This “gym” (and I use that word hesitantly) is truly my sanctuary. The staff is super-friendly and accommodating and the members are unpretentious. I’ve been a member at Crunch and Equinox and if you just want to lift weights or show off those are the places for you. However, if you want a relaxed atmosphere where you can enter into your own “zone” then Clay is it. I’m a martial artist and Clays is essentially my own private kung fu studio. Many of the staff are martial artists so they are definitely in tune with my needs. Plus, I’ve found some great sparring partners! Moreover, the equipment, namely the FreeMotion devices, are centered around core-strength. Working stabilizer muscles will ensure that you prevent injury. If you simply want to grunt, lift-heavy, and bulk-up this is not quite the place for you. I had a great experience with Jen from the beginning. I really felt like she took the time to assess my needs, and did not use a cookie cutter approach at all. I’ve been really stressed and was having alot of problems when I first went to see her, including terrible PMS. I had a symptom free period this month YAY!!!!!! and am much more relaxed. I’ve lost some weight, I’m sleeping better, and every time I see her I feel like I’m making progress. She let me know I had to make a commitment to myself, but she’s been there every step of the way to cheer me on and give her support and knowledge. I can also e-mail her if I have questions between sessions and she always gets back to me right away.
I have never written an online review in my life–not for a bar, restaurant, or hotel, and certainly not in support of an exercise-related experience. I’ve never been compelled to…until now. I stumbled on Physique out of a combination of desperation and laziness (impending bikini season and the fact that it’s three blocks from my apartment were probably the biggest factors), and the positive reviews on citysearch pushed me to check it out. Like some of the other reviewers, I’ve worked with numerous trainers at a number of city gyms, and I was skeptical.
