Where is the Best Neighborhood Bar in Dallas, Texas?
Christie’s has been around forever it seems, and with the new makeover, things have gotten better. The addition of a real grill means hot food! Burgers! Steaks! The addition also means they have to pay for it apparently, so the food seems a little pricey for the neighborhood, not way out of line, but you’ll pay more there for a burger than other bars/restaurants in the area. Service is usually outstanding, and friendly, and beer/drink prices are right in line with everyone else in uptown…Pros + Pool tables, and good foodCons – A bit pricey on food, can often be very smoky
I got invited to Winedale Tavern last weekend with a few friends, I was a little skeptical at first because I had heard how small it was, however I had heard it was a great crowd and good music. I do LOVE Dive Bars and Dallas doesn’t have very many good Dive’s left. If you don’t mind a crowded place then I would say check it out anytime. While I was there I ran into some people starting a website they called DallasDiveBars.I guess it’s their plan to revitalize the dive bar scene here in Dallas. Wide and delicious selection of foods ranging from salads and burgers to oysters and fajitas. Every Friday they have all-you-can-eat fajitas or peel-and-eat shrimp(alternates every other Friday). Full bar and weekly beer specials. Excellent, friendly service and a casual, bar-type atmosphere. I have eaten there several times and have never had a bad experience. I heartily recommend the Chicken Fajita Salad and the Guacamole Bacon Burger.
We were in Dallas from the ‘burbs and went to Louie’s for dinner. We had heard great things about it. The food was good….not great. All our entrees came out at different times. One person was done before the other 2 were served. After waiting at least 15 minutes for the other 2 entrees to arrive, they came and one was cold, the other one was warm, but not hot.We enjoyed their clam chowder and their greek salad. Both were outstanding. The pizza was great for thin crust. We prefer a thicker and chewier crust, but we knew before we went the type of pizza they had. The pizza sauce was outstanding. The meatball sub was good, would have been better if it had arrived hot, not just warm. The chicken and broccoli was perfectly cooked and yummy….but ice cold. We couldn’t understand why both weren’t hot, since we waited over 15 minutes for it after the other things were served.The service is only fair and sort of friendly. I’ve never seen a bar with such an identity crisis. What is it, please someone tell me! Is it a metro/gay sportsbar/nightclub/restaurant? As usual in our fickle city everyone goes to the new place to be seen, and in most cases, such as this one, we only arrive to be let down. Few bars in this city have really wowed me, and this one is definitely not one of them. I don’t want to completely down grade them, its just not the upscale late night lounge or club that the ownership/management thinks or wants it to be. I read they were supposed to have the hottest staff in town and was totally let down in that department. The napoleonic muscle head with an attitude behind the bar didn’t exactly strike me as one for that category. I will say there were some good looking cocktails that were nice, but thats everywhere in this city. The cocktails in this city are easily comparable to Vegas or L.A., which goes without saying.
