DMANBURGER “Jane Restaurant”March 22, 2010 After a burger tasting planned for a well-known burger haunt fell through, I walked aimlessly and annoyed that my burger craving was postponed and prolonged -“What else is in this area” ? I asked myself “Minetta Tavern”, “Five Guys” ? Not willing to deal with the waiting and unsure chance of getting a table at Minetta, or needlessly following the hordes of burger reviewers that flock after Five Guys, I was lost for ideas. Reluctantly I decided to expel my idea of a burger mission, and just go to a normal brunch, perhaps giving my arteries a rest -and maybe order a salad? I noticed that there were swarms of people outside Jane, an American bistro and sister restaurant of The Smith, a partnership of Glen Harris and Jeffrey Lefcourt. I asked myself- “Could this have a decent burger”? I quickly scanned the crowded room hoping to catch a glimpse of other burger fanatics nourishing themselves on my unsuspecting prey. I come here for the food, not the service…the staff varies so much here that I don’t let it affect my decision to eat at Relish. The first time I went, the waiter was awesome…fun and friendly. We gave him a ridiculously huge tip. We had such a good time that we decided to have our wedding rehearsal brunch there about two weeks later and our waitress was hellishly bad…she had an attitude with my adorable 82-year-old father-in-law, who is sweet as pie so she immediately lost in my book. There were 15 of us, which is a lot of work, but if you can’t handle waitressing, do us all a favor and do something else for a living. Great fries and cheese grits, so I’ll probably go back as soon as possible. What can I say, I’m a masochist with a food problem. Oh, and don’t go b/w 5-6PM – the kitchen is closed. I hate that.Pros + Great upscale diner food…amazing grits and onion ringsCons – service is either great or terrible, closed b/w 5-6PM

I typically don’t write reviews of restaurants, but I had to do put a few words about this place. It was surprising to be welcomed on a Saturday night – late in the evening, with no reservation. Me and my fiancee sat down and we had the duck meatballs and the octopus. Both were literally amazing – nicely seasoned, nothing to be changed at all. Our server wasn’t pushy or interrupting at all – just timely in his words to us and his service. She had the pork while I had the hanger steak – Wow – we typically don’t clean off our plates, but everything was just outstanding – and we couldn’t stop eating or beaming about how great everything was. The drinks were nicely prepared – a bit heavy on liquor – but hey, that’s cool with us!We shared a dessert since we were quite full – we chose the chocolate plate. Unfortunately (for me), my fiance who is a chocaholic gave me 2 tastes and hogged the entire thing – she said she’d never had something so wonderful. The mexican chocolate was ju
