Where is the Best Morning-After Brunch in Houston, Texas?
I have been a loyal customer of this little restaurant since it first opened. The Dharma Cafe to me is maybe more notable for what’s missing than for what is there-what’s missing is a predictable corporate layout with lot’s of pre-packaged food from Sysco or some other megalith food purveyor, mind numbing music played so loud as to require you shout your order to the server, and most importantly, isolated, disassociated, and uncaring staff. What you will find at the Dharma Cafe is consistently great food, which is always fresh and flavorful. The atmosphere is delightful, and to the great credit of Susan and John, you can dress up or dress down as the whim suits you and feel just as at home in either attire. I am constantly impressed with the unique and creative creations that John and Susan come up with. Their menu is always evolving and the specials remain enticing and satisfying. On one recent visit, I was treated to a lovely seasonal salad prepared with fresh blueberries, pecans, gr
I recently went to the Remington Restaurant with my girlfriend this past weekend. To say the least, it was phenomenal. I was warmly greeted by the hostess, Kristen, who gladly showed me to my table. I was then promptly greeted by our waiter, Nelso. He was very knowledgeable about the food menu and wine list. I started off with the goat cheese salad, which was so beautifully plated; I almost didn’t want to eat it. After the salad, I was then greeted with another masterpiece, my entree. I had the Fruit de Mare. Eating out a lot, I was scared to order a seafood dish because it is often overcooked, but the lobster, scallop, and shrimp couldn’t have been cooked any better. I summed up my dining experience with a Creme Brulee, which also was delightful. My girlfriend had the Tortilla Soup, the Duck Sampler, and ended with a Trio of Chocolate. She told me that it was the best restaurant experience shes has ever had. I think my girlfriend was a little upset I was more into my food
If you are looking for tex-mex and want tex-mex prices, don’t go to Hugo’s. However, if you are looking for excellent service, flavorful regional Mexican dishes, and a superb dining experience, Hugo’s just might fit the bill. The setting is elegant, a large brick building covered in ivy, with looming floor to ceiling windows, and old-world cast iron chandeliers and wrought iron accent throughout. The first time I came here, the space almost felt medieval, but now I find the decor is part of the charm. Our latest dining experience could be classified as excellent from start to finish. We had mojitos and sangria ($5 during happy hour) at the bar, and ordered a green ceviche. The mojitos were excellent, the sangria fresh and fruity, and the green ceviche was tasty and tangy, just the right starter for the evening. Our bartender was attentive and provided great service even though there wasn’t a single empty seat at the bar. An auspicious start to what turned out to be a wonderful culi
Bistro Calais is one of our favorite afternoon getaways. We came upon the restaurant quite by accident late one night about 2 years ago, and have made it a point to return whenever we need an escape. The staff and service was and is always accomodating. The wine selections are nice, and priced accordingly. (something for everyone, including the budget concious) Mussels are always a favorite, as is the crusty french bread–wonderful starters. Lunch specials are well priced for the portions, and the options are endless. Especially nice are the choices for more timid or picky eaters, like my beloved. There’s always a sandwhich, fresh fish, poultry or beef selection to chose from. Leisurely glancing @ the back patio area, complete with cazebo, can lift the spirits and transport one out of a city that at times can overcrowded, noisy and lined with traffic. Our refreshing little getaway is highly recommended to our friends; as there is always a reason to return…perhaps one day we’ll make
