Where is the Best Morning-After Brunch in Chicago, Illinois?
The novelty of the frushi and the fresh squeezed juice are cute…but there was not much else to get me to come back for more.I’ve been tasting all the brunch spots in chicago over the past few months and this one came highly recommended. I went, excited to see what all the fuss was about, and when we got there, the first thing that struck me was the decor. It seemed half-hearted: as though they bought the can of orange paint and a bushel of oranges and got just plain tuckered out after that. The service was fine, nothing fancy and the food looked better than it tasted. Compared to the brunches i’ve had throughout the country, the food didn’t hold up. The concept works, but they need to back it up a little more in the kitchen. I was throwing a going away party on a budget, but I didn’t want the party to come off as “budgeted”, so I searched the web for expensive or free party rooms/areas. Four Farthings came up on the top of the list and I called and booked their free party room well in advance of my party. They allowed me to order the food the day before and the drinks were on a “cash bar” type basis. I got a little nervouse as the party got closer b/c I hadn’t seen the room or had the food, but I was utterly pleased with my event. The party room was perfect–not too big and not too small. Plenty of seating and tables for food. We were able to decorate the area ourselves. We had a server, Danielle, who took care of us the entire evening and made sure we had everything we needed. I talked to both the owners, Bill and Jon, and they were so helpful and willing to accommodate. The restaurant and bar are very nice. The food is delicious. The first time I went here was with my (ahem) “ex gf” when we couldn’t find the restaurant we were originally looking for. At first, I thought that place was cramped and old (which it is). But after tasting their food and drinks, I looked passed their cramped interior and indulged in their yummy offerings. I’ve been here 2 times after that and I continue to like what I taste. If you’re looking for that Latin cuisine “redux”, then this is a place you want to be. They have remade dishes from around the world (i.e. Mexico, Cuba, Spain, Brazil, and even Philippines) adding “traditional Latin twists” to their dishes hence making their cuisine “Latin Fusion”. Although everything on the menu sounded appitizing to me, I stuck with their seafood. I’ll be honest with you, THEE BEST seafood stew I’ve EVER had was their Shellfish Stew “Zarzuela”.
