Where is the Best Morning-After Brunch in Chicago, Illinois?
Victory’s Banner is awesome. If you’re going on the weekend, make like the staff and zen out as soon as you walk thru the door because there will be a wait (10-40 mins). Put your name on the list and walk to Starbucks to get a paper or check out the thrift store or trendy shops across the street. Once you get a table, you’re in for a treat. Sure to please are the raspberry french toast, omlettes, the Satisfaction Promise or Erin’s Eggless Wonder. All the eggs they use are free-range (Phil’s Farm Fresh). For lunch you can’t beat the bacon cheeseburger. Vegan? Just tell them and they’ll make your dish to order. The tofu scramble is a fantastic vegan dish. They recently added a few new wraps to the menu and I hope they keep them on there ~ the avocado, bacon, lettuce, tomato wrap is outstanding. In the summer you can bring your dog and eat at the tables outside. The only frustrating thing about this restaurant is that the staff takes retreats a couple times a year, so if you’re a regular
The food is great. I’ve never had a bad server either. They are always very personable. I’ve had to wait a while for food. But I tried to exert some common sense and realize that what I ordered takes some time to prepare or look around and realize that the place is out of control busy. This is a great place to go when I want to relax and take my time for a meal. If I wanted fast, I can go to McDonald’s. The only complaints that I have are the idiot yuppies who have ill-behaved children. Screaming children are the last thing I want to hear when I’m hungover. Also, what is with yuppies dressing impeccably for breakfast? Do these people really have nothing better to do? I see nothing wrong with wearing nice casual clothes to breakfast while hungover on the weekends…thankyouverymuch. Those people must not live in the neighborhood.
Try to sneak in here anytime other than a weekend if you want the most amazing, bigger-than-your-head dutch pancakes (the puffy, volcano-like kind) you’ve ever had. You’re already blowing the diet, so go ahead and get the apple — you won’t regret it. Only problem is this place is so popular that you just can’t avoid an hour wait on the weekends (even when I got there once at 7:30am!). Pros + great breakfast foodCons – too popular, extremely long waits
