Where is the Best Morning-After Brunch in Austin, Texas?
This place I think is more for the location and atmosphere then a great dining experience although I would reccomend it for a social get together since the atmosphere is great. There are lots of interesting, delicious sounding items on the Bakehouse’s menu. I loved the decor.However, the overall effect of the food was bland and lacking. My wife’s bratwurst was great, but all of the side dishes, including the warm potato salad (which was described as “heaven” by our server) were acceptable, not memorable.I had a chicken florentine, stuffed with spinach and cheese. Very little flavor.I’ve had truly bad meals, and this was not one of them. There were many good sounding items on the menu. I wouldn’t drive far to give it a second chance.Pros + decor was great, brats were tastyCons – flavor of everything else.
We always like the LOCAL recommendations for eating……….interestingly enough, it was not our hotel Valet, but he was a young man living in Austin, his whole life. I would love to comment on the bbq, if I could ever bring myself to order anything but Lambert’s drool-inducing Fried Green Tomato Salad. I ordered it on my first trip during lunch with a friend, and actually took my husband back two days later for dinner to order the same thing. Lightly-fried green tomatoes topped with crab, over salad greens and a delicate green goddess dressing, this may very well be the reason God created tomatoes. I tasted my husbands brisket, though we actually found it to be good but not awe-inspiring (harder to take given both the higher price and the availability of top-notch brisket in the area). Their roasted vegetables are, however, in the realm of, “can these really be vegetables” decadent and rich through lovely roasting and caramelization. Another outstanding feature is their fried pies. Came down for the Los Lonely Boys Concert, which by the way was fantastic and Stubb’s outdoor concert stage in the back was a reat place to watch and listen to music, A+. Now the food – ribs and chicken were OK, but the sides and appetizers needed a lot more taste than what was presented to us. The portions are difinitely small, surprisingly coming from a Texas B-B-Q joint and especially for the price your paying for them.
