Where is the Best Mexican Food in Memphis, Tennessee?
While the service was fine at Pancho’s, the food is just not authentic Mexican. The salsa seemed to come from a jar and the cheese sauce has a similarity to Velveeta. We were disappointed in our tamales and quesadillas. The food is okay, but dont expect authenticity.Pros + Convenient location, Good parking, ServiceCons – , Food, Velveeta like
…except for the refried beans. I understand they are a draw for some people, but they just taste burnt to me (and everyone I know). I would have put highly recommended if it wasn’t just for that fact. I’m a vegetarian, so I enjoy their dishes…but the stuff that comes in the schnucks brand vegetarian refried beans can tastes a hundred times better. But more on their side, I think they have the best salsa in Memphis. And I’ve never been let down by my main course.Pros + vegetarian selection, nice atmosphere, Great salsaCons – Worst refried beans
My family has been going to El Porton for many years…since my son was 5 and my daughter 2…they are 21 and 16 now!!! Rosa and Ron run a great restaurant.. food is always good… atmosphere is great. Rosa and Ron are two wonderful people with two kids of their own..who also work at the restaurant. Eveyone is kind and always seem to be “Happy” that you are there. I don’t think I’ve EVER had anything that wasn’t prepared well and everything tastes awesome. If you’ve never been, you really must try it. Pros + Great food at a decent price – won’t break the bankCons – I haven’t found any
I truly love Mexican food, and it’s really upsetting to me when i eat at a delicious restaurant and there is NOBODY eating there! Perhaps even more unnerving is the fact that there isn’t one descriptive or accurate review for this restaurant! Both the tomato salsa and the salsa verde were great, as were the enchilada, burrito, and everything else that was included in the combination platter i received—for six dollars. La Guadalupana has been voted best Mexican restaurant in Memphis, and I am not undermining their greatness (or reasonable pricing). However, if you are looking for a delicious authentic Mexican locale with very reasonable menu prices, you have to try La Espiga first, in my opinion.Pros + Food, Value, ServiceCons – Odd Location
Let’s put it this way…..this is horrific Mexican, they precook chicken and use a holding warmer (an incubator)…the fresh “arrived” at the table before the actual dish did…it was awful…the place has the nerve to have a “best of the best” CitySearch sticker on the outside door….somebody must be kidding, this place has gross food….that’s the real deal
