Where is the Best Mexican Food in Dallas, Texas?

After years of schlepping all the way down to Javier’s or Trece for high-end Mex-Mex, North Dallas finally has its own upscale cocina Mexicana! The restaurant is called “Maximo’s,” and it is located near the Galleria on the northeast side of Alpha Road and Noel Road. It just opened, and on the recommendation of a friend, I took a client and a couple of colleagues there for drinks last Friday. The “margarita lounge” (as they call the bar) was very cool with lots of dark wood, comfortable leather couches and couple of flat screen TV’s. The place was full but not over-packed with a professional crowd that looked like they had just rolled out of their Galleria and Tollway-corridor offices. The basic margarita was good, but what really stood out were the specialty drinks like the “tamarindo” (a margarita blended with a tamarind puree) and the “black and blue” (a mojito-style drink with crushed blueberries and blackberries). The food smelled great, but we had to leave after a couple of drink

We had a team lunch recently with a group of 6 people. We were all happy with our order except for our boss is on a strictly diet of protein and good carbs. (There were only a few choices for her and she didn’t want the side salad). Our waiter offered to make a half order of the grilled veggies but the manager(?) later came back and said all they had was side salad. The staff tried their best but compared to other chain restaurant that had already caught up to the trend (like Macaroni Grill) this was a good lesson for us. aBe prepared to wait on Friday (at lunchtime) especially if you have a large group of people (more than 10).We also hang out here for happy hour. The patio is quite nice.Pros + Good food. Great portions.Cons – Not low-carb friendly. There can be a wait for lunch on Friday. Does not take reservation.
