Where is the Best Mexican Food in Dallas, Texas?
If you’re looking for cheap Mexican food, you’ll be satisfied. Just don’t expect too much qualilty. I’ve heard so much about this place and how it’s a Texas favorite. But, in all honesty, we’ve got better Mexican food in Georgia. I loved the cheese dip and tortillas. But the chile poblano I ordered did not taste fresh at all – as if it had been made an hour ago and was sitting out the whole time. Pros + Cheap, Cheap, Cheap! Great tortillas and cheese dip. Cons – Overall, the food is not high quality.
Anyone who would call Matt a scam artist clearly doesn’t know their history. He was on various cooking shows (pre-food network) and was a published author. He was a local celebrity and his family has been in the business for many years. Me and my family had the pleasure of meeting him and his wife years ago. And my family have been eating at Matt’s before it’s current location. All I can say is that the place declined when it’s creator and owner declined and let loose control. The food was excellent in the past and I can honestly say it isn’t what it used to be, my family and I have been saying that for years. Still favorable to hack Dallas tex mex places that will go unnamed. And still a great spot for Lakewood. Hopefully someone will take control and restore Matt’s food to its former glory. Mi Cocina is a great restaurant. I’ve never been served a bad meal there. I’ve been going to MiCocina’s restaurants in both Dallas and Ft. Worth for years and you won’t find a more consistant restaurant chain. The atmosphere is high end and the staff is always attentive. I highly recommend the chicken fajitas and they have the best cheese queso in town.
I brought my family here on a Sunday afternoon and we shared a 3 taco combo. We enjoyed it very much and the staff was very hospitable. We sat outside and watched the people traffic. My wife had an orange margarita and I found myself “sampling” it more often than usual. I dare say it’s the best in town. And the al pastor tacos were fantastic. We had the green rice and corn sides, that were equally as good. We walked away saying this is our new favorite taco/rita spot and making plans to return again (and often). One peice of advice is try to grab the table outside right in front. The tables closer to Victoria’s Secret are right under the kitchen’s exhaust fan, which are a little loud for conversation and blowing warm air.
