Where is the Best Mexican Food in Austin, Texas?
El Gallo has quickly become my boyfriend and I’s favorite restaurant. As a Hispanic, I can be very critical in regards to Tex-Mex and every Saturday my boyfriend and I make it a point to try a new TXMX restaurant for lunch. We came across El Gallo one Saturday and after our first bite of chips and salsa we knew we were hooked. They by far have the best chips and salsa I have ever tasted!!! It was a solid medium heat with the right amount of chunkiness. The waitress told us that they are both made in house every day. I was also in love with their Mango Margarita which tasted fresh and delicious. Since the first visit, we have been back countless times as our tastebuds are constantly craving their food. Pros + food, service, location, free pralines with the checkCons – NONE
Read several reviews about the poor service, and couldn’t disagree more. In a town where I’ve come to count on crappy to nonexistent service (yeah, pretty much everywhere), I feel pretty well cared for here. Water and Margarita refills were regular, more chips were offered, and meals showed fairly promptly considering how busy it was. One of the few places I’ve been where the appetizer showed up as an appetizer as opposed to with the meal. The house margaritas are potent, and there are many flavors to choose from if the standard doesn’t suit your taste. The queso is fair, and you can dress it up with the sides provided. So far, I’ve tried the Chilaquiles, chicken fajitas, Entomotades (sp?), and a shrimp/corn/mushroom fajita whose name I do not remember. All were excellent. The roasted pepper salsa (salsa bar is free, perhaps that has changed over time since a previous reviewer said otherwise) is excellent. Prices are reasonable as well.Enjoy, just expect to have to walk a sho
My wife and I were traveling on vacation and happened to spend a few days in Austin. She likes or should I say LOVES mexican food. Trouble is she only orders chicken enchalada’s. I went on line and broused Austin’s best mexican restaurants and happened to chose Sazon’s as it was number 4 and by habit I always go for number 4. The outside decor told us that this could be risky and it didn’t look inviting. My wife also suggested we go back a few blocks and try a place that “looked better”. Armed with my computer review I urged her politely in the direction of the front door. What was inside was a super clean and attractive mexican restaurant/cantina. I ordered the pork with green sauce and tortillas while my Mrs went for her favorite enchaladas. Our waitress was super friendly and at our biding suggested some delicious hor d orvores. My wife stated that the enchalada’s were some of the best she had ever tasted. By then I had tasted my pork wrapped in one of the tortillas with the green
A quick thought would lead one past the organic blackberry Margaritas — it does seem a bit much. But try this — a frozen glaze of blackberry puree lines the glass, while a small amount of puree sits in the bottom for a quick taste. The middle of the drink is filled with a very good, classic lime frozen margarita. It is a beautiful drink to look at, it has a classic taste, with occasional hints of novelty. And for $3 at HH, it can’t be beat. The food, especially the gorditas (both vegetarian and pork) and the pork stuff poblano leave no room for complaints. Pros + Food and MargsCons – none
We’ve been doing Jardine’s a couple of times per month for the last year or so…always great service and rarely disappointed with the meals. Try the tequila chicken (it’s also the Tuesday lunch special) or beef fajitas…always good. The tacos are a little bland as are the basic enchiladas. Hot sauce and chips are good…Margaritas are average…beer is cold! The service is always good, fast, efficient, attentive. Usually a wait during busy times only.
