Where is the Best Mediterranean Food in Minneapolis, Minnesota?
As a Greek myself (with a grandmother who was a very noted chef in the Mediterranean), Christo’s is where I go for my Greek fix. The food is always fresh, ingredients like the yogurt are made in the House — and therefore are like nothing you’ll get anywhere else. Full of flavor, spiced like only a Greek can do it, this food is interesting, satisfying, and often good examples of Greek “comfort food.” The staff is fantastic, the owners make you feel like you’re one of the family — it’s a place I always think of as my Minnesota taverna! Those who criticize this wonderful place may not know Greek food — it’s one of the great restaurants in the Twin Cities at any of the three locations (although Minneapolis has a special charm).
Falafel King is the best for falafel in Minneapolis. The falafel itself is a perfect blend and you can count on it being hot and fresh! You can even get it spicy with a hot pepper relish. The hummus is also excelent with their pita bread and they garnish it with greek olives and hot yellow peppers. I CAN?T BELIEVE THERE ARE SO LITTLE REVIEWS OF THIS PLACE!!! My parents have gone to this little restaurant about once a week starting in the late 70?s. I grew up on this food! Spinach pie?s are super buttery and the dough is moist and gewy. (Ask them to microwave it because otherwise they put it in the oven and it can get a little dry) You have to get the #1 or #2 platter RAW. Raw kibbie is the best, take a triangle of Lebanese flat bread, open to make a little pocket, spoon in some raw meat, drizzle with olive oil, add a slice of raw onion, wrap, eat, ENJOY! If you feel like you can?t eat raw meat get the chicken kabobs. It comes with a very tangy yogurt sauce that is also good to dip flat bread and drizzle all over the salad. The rolled grape leaves are sour and citrus-y. The tabouli is MOIST and not dried out like everyone else?s. If you like hummus you have to try their baba ganouj ?YOU will NEVER eat hummus again. My wife and I frequent many restaurants in the Western half of MSP. We return to Santorini’s from time to time, despite the very valid complaints that service is from average to poor depending on… well… luck, I guess. We have had experiences where the service was acceptable, the seating was decent and that was sufficient given the food. We have had times when we really thought the waitperson should seriously consider a different profession.The dinner menu is relatively good Greek faire. The prices are a bit high for MSP, but out-of-towners from the big cities will find them very reasonable. The Sunday brunch is spectacular food, though again, a bit pricey for the market. The restaurant simply needs to be remodeled. There are some nice booths, but the rest of the restaurant looks old and not consistent with the prices.If you go to places like Red Lobster for non-special events and you feel like Greek, Santorini’s is a good choice.
