Where is the Best Martini in St. Louis, Missouri?
The food:It was nothing short of was excellent!! We had the Pork and the White Monkfish with risotto puttanesca. The pork cut was quite thick and as juicy and flavorful as can be all the way through. They failed to mention the wonderful potato casserole consisting of layers of thinly sliced potato and melted Gruyere cheese. The fish was very tender and fresh to taste and the bed of risotto was filled with a variety of flavors that made you crave your next bite (in between stealing bites of my wife’s potato casserole!). I’m a big fan of french onion soups, so I try them wherever I go. This one did not disappoint. I’d definitely put it in my top 5 favorites. The meats and cheeses were as expected, unusual and flavorful, but a bit pricey.Pros + Great food, Good service, cozy atmosphereCons – A touch pricey
The moment you walk through the doors into the intimate surroundings, you realize the service at Portabella is impeccable. We took far too long to decide what to order, and loved everything that was brought to us. Try the fresh fish – the Mahi Mahi and Yellowfin were amazing! The wine selection is unbeatable. They let us stay far too late, yet made us feel quite welcome
Do not waste your time going here….the owner’s attiitude is horrible, that must be why the bartender’s think it is acceptable to act the way they do (p.s. you are a BARTENDER, there to serve others – the attitude), full of people that are TRYING to convince everyone else they have $$$, and not to mention the gold digging women. I was amazed @ how rude people were…this is STL, not LA. If you are an attractive female that is not a REGULAR, expect to get the dagger eye’s from the not so polite women. Oh, I almost forgot it is so packed that you can’t even drink your drink…unless you want to lose a tooth. Pros + musicCons – everything else
I took my son and daughter there as a going away meal before they returned to college. My son had Tortellni Bolognese and I had the Spaghetti….excellent, however, my daughter ordered the Tuto Mare and she did not like it at all because it is made with a broth base rather than a cream base as she has had before. She ate two bites and we informed the waitress that she did not think the dish was up to par and lacked flavor. The waitress offered no remedy and still charged us for the dish. I know it is a personal taste thing, but I believe that there could have been a little more effort put into pleasing customers. After this the waitress became very rude, basically slammed the bill on our table and said “thanks” in a very curt manner. We will go back but because the food is outstanding, hopefully we will not encounter the same waitress. Pros + Superb PastaCons – Rude Waitress
