Where is the Best Martini in Portland, Oregon?
I am not sure why there is such a rush of bad reviews recently about this place but I am glad I didn’t let them sway me from going there. We met with some friends last night and I dont really have any complaints. The food is organic & sustainable #1 – there is going to be a higher cost for just the ingredients off the start. #2 – this is not your typical american “feed lot” restaurant. Food is ment to be enjoyed and savored not stuffed down your throat as fast as possible. From the time we were seated to the time we paid our bill around 2 1/2 hours had passed & I honesly never noticed the time. Each stage of the experience was timed well as to ensure that we were able to enjoy what we already had at the table without feeling rushed. We ordered a 3 cheese dish with 2 types of goat cheeses & 1 cow milk cheese – absolutely delicious. For the main course, I went out on a limb & for the first time in my life tried steak tartare. The presentation was appetizing and inviting & the f
It was a busy Saturday night and we decided to go for a romantic dinner. I guess that was too tall an order. We’ve been to Colloso a handful of times and overall have had pretty good experiences. This night, we were seated within earshot of the bar. It did seem a little bit chaotic & confused as they were obviously trying out a new waitress who served us waters and had to be asked for menus and then forgot about us altogether. Over the course of our time there, we were waited on by 3 different people. We were eventually served our drinks by a 2nd waitress who never followed up. We had to ask who was waiting on us in order to order a 2nd round- and then we were served by the dishwasher. I know this, as we could hear the bartender/ manager call for him from the back of the house as they were super slammed. This was honestly the best part of the evening. Caleb was attentive and knowledgable of the menu & followed up frequently in addition to bussing the other tables. I’m not sure why he
Me and some friends decided to try Olive or twist on a Saturday night. It was really nice inside, I loved the seating and the atmosphere. There were quite a bit of people there, but always enough room for incoming people to find somewhere to sit on the nice white couches. I was really disappointed with the martini list though. There were about 8 martinis on the menu, I was hoping since this was a martini bar that there would be many different martinis to choose from. The martini I got was really good, but I was just sad that there wasn’t more choices to pick from. I’m sure you can ask the waitress or bartender to make you anything you want though. I would go here again if they had a more elaborate martini list. I would recommend it though if you want a great martini and know what you want, it was a really nice place. It would be good for a date too, the atmosphere was romantic and it wasn’t loud, you can actually have a conversation. Pros + The waitress was very attentive & great
This restaurant is a gem, set in what I believe is an old Dairy Queen or other fast food building. The food is seasonal, with a specials menu that usually is almost half the size of the regular menu. The quality of the fresh and perfectly cooked sea food is beyond compare in the Portland area. If this restaurant was downtown, it would be impossible to get a table! Everything is made from scratch, from the wonderful soups, to the fantastic scones that accompany your breakfast selection on the weekends. Fresh Salmon or Halibut dishes run are under $18, including soup or salad, and the portions are large. I usually cannot pass up the crab cakes, which have ALOT of wonderful crab in them, and are always cooked perfectly (never greasy). The cheap eats menu is great, served during certain hours at dinner, this menu has 5-7 selections for $2.95, with a selection that changes each month. Some of the servers are less than attentive, but this appears to be because this place is a little
The first time we went to Oba, we had a three-course meal that was pretty good– but the service was inattentive and bordering on rude. The second time we went was amazing. We ordered appetizers (the gazpacho was so unique and refreshing on a hot summer day) and drinks. Their main room was closed for an event, so we sat in the crowded bar. We had no trouble finding a quaint window seat; when we were asked to move to accommodate a 10-top, we did so gladly. When we were asked to move a second time, our $60+ bill (for two people) was taken care of by management! Now that’s what I call good service.Pros + Very original menu, good dinner packagesCons – Lack of parking, erratic waitstaff
