Where is the Best Martini in New York, New York?
The Roots ‘Rising Down Album release was held at Sutra last Monday night, the venue offered an intimate setting among fans and music industry folks alike. I was about to head home for the night around 1am when my friend texted me that Mos Def was right outside, so I stayed later than anticipated. Lucky that I did or I would have missed the highlight of the night when ?uestlove got on deck and everyone just flowed with it, creating the good connective vibe amongst everyone. The music kicked off and cheers erupted. Mos Def and Black Thought got on the mic and basically rocked it which was very exciting to see. The party went on well past 2am but I can?t party like I used to on a weekday so it was quits for me after they got on. Just a week later I was at the Erykah Badu and The Roots show at Radio City Music Hall and Black Thought actually shouted Sutra out from center stage as the place to be for the after-party. Sutra was packed but not to the point where you simply cannot enjoy your
I decided to check out La Palapa Rockola after hearing about it from a co-worker who had thrown a birthday party there in November. I live closer to the East Village La Palapa, but he said that this one had a slightly different vibe, and that the food was just as good. When we arrived we were greeted by the bartender with a warm smile. It was happy hour, so we sat at the bar for a frozen margarita (the ginger flavored one is awesome) and we soon realized that almost everyone at the bar knew the bartender’s name. This was like a “happy-hour family”! Happy hour ended and we were shown to a cozy table in the back. The decor was warm and featured lots of stills from old Mexican movies that I’ve never seen. Candles everywhere! Our waiter was very good about recommending items from the menu. He said he personally loved to mix the spicy mushroom appetizer with the pinto bean side, so we tried it, and it was delish. Very fresh and flavorful. Spicy, but not of the “burn a hole in your
My friends and I went to Blue Fin after seeing a show. We ended up showing up a half hour earlier than our reservation. We were seated immediately. We started off with a selection of sushi rolls. Those were gone in no time. I had the Lobster/Shrimp bisque. I really wanted to order another one as it was so good. Instead of having lumps of lobster and shrimp on top, there was a little salad…almost like a seafood salad. The mixture of the celery and green onions added a little extra flavor to the bisque. Only thing that I would have asked for would have been a little topping of creme fraiche. I had the Sauteed hailbut with lemon herb gnocchi, mushrooms and lump crab. I’m not a fan of gnocchi so I only ate a couple of them. The halibut was so light and flaky. Everything was cooked perfectly. For dessert I had the Upside Down Chocolate Souffle cake. OH MY GOD!!!! It was chocolate goodness. There was a nice size scoop of ice cream along side the cake. We were so full that I wanted to get

My wife, step-daughter and I live in Scotland and we were on holiday last week in New York. We visited this bar on a Saturday night around 7.00pm. Many of the tables were reserved but the friendly waitress found a table for us within five minutes of arriving. I was impressed with this service given that we were tourists. Her friendliness and help continued throughout the evening. During our three hour stay we only had to sit for a couple of minutes with empty glasses. They take their cocktails very seriously here and have an imaginative list. The cocktails had a high level of alcohol content, compared with Scotland?s standard, and were very enjoyable. There was a lively buzz within the art deco bar and the crowd were the friendliest that we encountered during our holiday. At one point during the evening the waitress asked us if we could move table so that a larger party could be accommodated in the seating area. This was no problem for us. However the larger party insisted on buying
