Where is the Best Martini in New York, New York?
I usually don’t write positive reviews online. In fact, I admittedly use sites like this to rant about the terrible state of manhattan nightlife. However, sometimes I come across a place that renews my faith in this city that I have a love/hate relationship with. Anchor is one of those places. We called ahead last friday, expecting it to be dead like most places the week after new years, and they said they could accommodate us. accommodate us? understatement of the decade. Me and my girls got there and were immediately ushered into the most amazing shitshow/party I’ve seen in some time. DJ Price (one of my fav DJs!) was rocking a packed room of beautiful people. We were able to grab a table with ease and ended up turning out Anchor until four in the morning. I won’t reveal what transpired throughout the evening, however I do recommend this place to anyone looking for a taste of real NYC. You need a sense of humor to deal with the seating at Verlaine.I chuckle when I see a party of 5 seated at a 2 person table.If you are looking for a romantic date spot or a place to have a deep conversation…then this is not the place.But if your with a group of friends who don’t mind getting cozy….real cozy…..then stop on by at Verlaine’s.The happy hour is what always reels me in. Those Lychee Martinis are so yummy…yet so strong! The appetizers are tasty too so order a bunch and share with friends.Despite the crappy seating and sometimes aloof waitress I always leave here with a full belly and (alcohol-fueled) smile on my face.The neighborhood is great for bar hopping too.Pros + Happy Hour & Yummy AppetizersCons – Bad seating
So, I had been thinking about visiting this place for months. I read reviews. I’ve heard mixed reviews. I must say that I loved it! We started out with cocktails in their beautiful lounge and then had dinner in the dining room. We were seated and promptly approached. Our waitress was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. We found out that she had worked there for a few years, so assumed that she would be able to give some good suggestions. And our instincts were correct! Most of our group had steaks (the “Cowboy” ribeye was AMAZING) and one in our group was convinced to try the bacon chop (something we never would have thought about, but we all tried…and loved it!) The lobster mac and cheese was to die for! Our experience was incredible and will be back again!Pros + Service, food
The Russian Vodka Room is a great place to go for infused-vodka in NY. (A tip dont confuse it for the Russian Samovar across the street. The owner gets a little touchy when you both figure out that youre at the wrong vodka bar.) Theyre known for their home-infused vodkas, which range from strawberry (my favorite), peach etc. to horseradish, dill etc. for the more daring. You can get their vodkas in heart-shaped carafes (comes in small/large) or your choice of 6 vodkas that come in shot glasses on ice. Their martinis are also really good for those who cant stomach vodka straight-up (i.e. sour apple martini, watermelon martini. I would also recommend getting their appetizers as well, which are surprisingly really good bar food with your vodka (i.e. smoked meats platter, cabbage in a phyllo-dough pastry). If possible try to make a reservation, since it gets really packed.Pros + Infused Vodka, Great Food, Trendy yet cool
Had dinner here on Friday night – it was packed! Definitely a popular destination for a Friday night dinner, although it seemed heavily populated with international tourists/businessmen. Not being able to decide on what to order, we went with the Bento dinner – a little sampling of everything. The sushi was delicious, as were the accompaniments included on the Bento. We ordered the Sake Sangria, which had little to no alcohol in it – disappointing for $14/glass. Dessert, which was included, was delicious. Just enough food to be full but not bursting at the seams. It is a bit pricey, but I suggest going all in for the food, and then choosing a pub on the Bowery for a drink or 2.Pros + Sushi, StaffCons – Price, Drinks
