I heard horrible things about this place but I loved it. I think they may have a new chef. Good food. Great drinks. I like that it is a little seedy when its not busy. The first time we came here we had the best waitress not the second but hey I have had worse.Pros + good music, food and drinks

Heavenly Mac n Cheese. Crispy baked cheese on top with warm gooey goodness on the bottom!Enjoyed the versatile seating areas from a casual loung area to a formal dining area. Staff is very friendly but the fountain soda’s were a little odd when I had dinner there.Pros + Heavenly Mac and CheeseCons – None

The good: the martinis! the lounge space! It’s definitely a space designed for live bands (although there wasn’t a band when I went–I must have been there on an off day because there wasn’t a bouncer…

I discovered the GG about one year ago and its now my favorite all around bar. It may look a little shady from the outside but on the inside it’s a whole different world. I love how everytime I’ve gone (mostly on Friday nights) there is never a line outside and they don’t charge you cover. It does get pretty crowded, and it is a pretty small space but the eclectic crowd gives you a great opportunity to mingle and chat. Every person I’ve brought here loves it. The bartenders are great and friendly and drinks are reasonable (although they can be a little stingy on the liquor). The music they play is great and the overall ambience is wonderful. Such a change of pace from the usual Hollywood trendy scene.Pros + Great atmosphere, friendly bartenders, no outside linesCons – Small space, can get really crowded, drinks aren’t that strong

Since I’ve been in LA, I’ve gone to mostly clubs and lounge-y type places. Fun, but not a lot of warmth. This place reminds me of home (just outside of Chicago). The Backstage is old-school (in a good way), unpretentious and friendly. The staff is not typical ‘seen it all, done it all’ LA types. They seem like regular people who care about doing their job well and making you feel comfortable. The food is bar food plus. I don’t know exactly where the ‘plus’ comes from, but everything I’ve tried here is better than at other places. The prices are low, the drinks are strong, and the room is very warm and comfortable. Nice mix of people, liking each other and having a good time. I wish the real world could be a little more like this place. There was a birthday party there the other night and the people seemed to be having more fun than a bunch of kids at Chucky Cheese. Pros + Friendly staff and crowd, great food, strong drinks, low pricesCons – Wish I lived a little closer
