Where is the Best Lunch Spot in Houston, Texas?
The SceneVoid of American trendiness, simple Charivari dodges the nearby hip-zone of its bustling Midtown locale with a tableau so authentically European, you could be in a roomy Berlin bistro. Showy stemware, doily-fitted trays, and silver dome-covered serving plates make dramatic table presentations, attracting power suits at lunch and a mature set by night. The FoodChef-owner Johann Schuster and German wife Irmgard-Maria, gently welcome you with baguettes and ethereal caviar mousse. Hefty flavor-packed portions will warm your winter-shivering bones but may prove heavy for Southern palates. Robust eaters relish the crisp Wiener Schnitzel splayed full-plate; “Zurich style” veal with rich champignon cream sauce; or salmon gratin bathed in beurre blanc. Just light: Beef carpaccio, or al dente risotto, fragrant with white wine, asparagus, forest mushrooms and arugula. Desserts are serious. Don’t miss chocolate mousse “dialogue” or homemade ice cream.
This was our first time going to Cullens. We were in a group of 10-12 people. The service was great. I have read several of these reviews that said other wise and I do not agree. Entire wait staff was great. The cocktails were delicious. I had a Sangria drink well work $8. The food was good in taste but the portions were not all that- expecially for the cost. I had the chicken fried rib eye and I really dont think it was rib eye. It was the thickness of 2 credit cards put together. It was good, but not $18.95 good. My husband had a stuffed chicken breast that was probably the size of a tennis ball, again not work $18.95 in size but good in taste. I would have loved to taste the $149.99 steak they were offering as a specail, but for $149.99, it better serve me for a week. I would recommend this place for a special occassion. They have the Grille @ Cullens that seemed to be more in my range and the food looked good.Pros + Great Drinks & FREE bread & ButterCons – porti
Sweet Tomatoes is my favorite place to eat! It’s the only place in town, that I know of, that is so delicious and healthy too! I feel like I have been actually nourished as well as just fed. The soups are the best anywhere, the salad selection is really fantastic as well. And the breads and muffins are to die for! They also have wonderful pasta dishes, and, of course, their delicious desserts! It’s making my mouth water, just thinking about it! It’s also a great place for kids. Whenever we take our grandkids with us, they love to be able to choose exactly what they want. Also, we know they are getting really healthy, as well as delicious food. My husband and I actually live in Katy so it’s a bit of a drive over! We hope they build a new restaurant closer to us. But until they do, it’s worth the drive 🙂 Juliearleen
I love this place that sometimes I go out of my way to visit them for lunch! I discovered this small “hole in the wall” about five years ago. The staff is friendly and service oriented. They most always remember how I like my food, i.e. spicy, white rice, noodles, etc. They have reasonable lunch specials and every dish is individually made. They have the best pad thai dish (Lunch L13 item) in the city and it’s the closest thing to actually flying to Thailand. I also love the green curry dish and the princess chicken. The ambience and decor is simple. I’d rather to go a restaurant with excellent food/service/lunch specials and reasonable prices than a restaurant with expensive paintings/decor and not so great service/food. Overall I would highly recommend this place to anyone who loves thai food.
A fabulous filet, but. didn’t get water after asking 2 different people, on 3 separate occasions. I finally got some just before the entree. Twice I had to ask for a refill. My steak came while I was in the middle of my salad. Had to tell 3 different people on 4 separate occasions, no, Im not finished with my salad. The busser asked if he could take my entree plate while I had my last bite in my mouth and my fork in my hand over the plate. Conversely when finished with my meal, I pushed my plates to the other side of the table and read 15 pages in my book before anyone came to take them away. Everyone seemed to have the right attitude; perhaps just some guidance in proper service etiquette is required.Pros + Great Steak, Good Wine list, Nice AtmosphereCons – , Lukewarm coffee
