Where is the Best Lounge in Los Angeles, California?
I remember going to Coda a couple of years back and feeling that I was in a room full of ghettoness…Since then, I lot of changes have been made to the staff, the decor, floor layout and cover charge at the door. I think all the changes they’ve made so far is great. There is no other place in the valley for young people to go out that isn’t trashy or just another meat locker. I could tell that that Coda will ultimately be where are the local scenesters will end up in the very near future (all they need is 80’s music and some indie rock and you’ll be set). It is a very groovy and seductive lounge without the hollywood snobiness. The djs are really good, I wish the music was a little deeper and more eclectic than the typical radio club stuff….but hey, let’s not forget that we’re talking about the valley.Pros + No cover, cool vibe, good musicCons – watching people dance to “lean like a cholo”
My friend and I were looking for a fun place with no door drama, something with some spark, but where we could also talk, ya know? We’d never been to the Dresden and gave it a whirl last night. What a treat! Right away – the lot in the back is easy to park (and cheap!), the door staff was friendly, we were approached by a waitress in the bar who helped us find a little table (imagine that – proactive service!), and our waitress was attentive and friendly. She got a little overwhelmed i think when the place filled up around 11-midnight, but we were having fun so it was cool.The atmosphere is certainly enchanting and crowd was so mixed – everything from lively older couples to attractive singles to crowds of hipsters. Marty and Elayne are amazing & take requests!! 🙂 And some guest singers who popped up on stage were great too. Drink prices are also very reasonable – was surprised by how little the bill was. If you want a night out with some style and class, try the Dresden. Get there
re: Club MoscowGot to the club around 11:30ish, there were a decent amount of people there though it wasn’t jam packed. Went straight to the bathroom, it was dark and the door didn’t seem to have a male/female sign on it… as I was finishing washing my hands, the door swung open and this bald bouncer dude yelled at me for going into the girl’s bathroom. I was like “it’s not even marked,” but whatever. Walked up to the lunge for some live music just as the music was ending, and then another bouncer came and kicked everyone out of said lounge because it was closing. Then we bought some drinks at the bar, and the guy who yelled at me for going into the wrong bathroom grabbed one of my friend’s drinks away because he thought she was underaged. (she wasn’t) Then at around 12:30 the club closed entirely and we were again yelled at to leave. I was like “it’s midnight on a Saturday, are you kidding?” though I suppose that was something we should’ve known beforehand.Overall, it seem
I’ve been to the Well twice this week since New Years. It has a great location, lighting, and seating. However the music is way too loud. You can’t hold a conversation with the person sitting next to you in the booth because the volume from the speakers is high. For a place with so much going for it I can’t believe the staff is letting this detail slide. Also, the music in the jukebox is dated. You’d think a place that’s cutting edge would play hipper music. Come on this is LA.Pros + Location, location, location. Great interior seating and lighting. Cons – The music is too loud and cheesy. For the kind of ambience I’d expect electronic music.
Alright, so this is a really great bar. I’ve been here a handful of times… and I’ve recommended it to quite a few friends. The jukebox is good, (not f*cking incredible) the drinks are good, and the bartenders are slightly slow, but I think they always are at bars that get so crowded. (And it does get really crowded). However on a week night, it’s ultra mellow for a more relaxed time… so your experience can be totally different. Only, the last time I went there the bartender charged me twice for my tab… but I took care of it and just think it was an honest mistake. Definitely worth checking out.
