Where is the Best Live Music Venue in New Orleans, Louisiana?
This place is a classic option for a Saturday night out, you can’t go wrong. When they re-opened post-K it seemed like the whole city was there to welcome them back! The crowd is mostly local. The best is when they have live rockabilly music, if you like to people-watch, you’ll be staring in amazement at the dancers geared up in 50’s pompadours and poodle skirts. There’s a sort of ‘alternative’ vibe here that I really appreciate. It’s a friendly place with good service and cheap drinks, and always great music. Sometimes the cover charge can be high here which is the only [albeit minor] thing I can think of that I don’t love about Rock N Bowl. Have only been here twice. The first time a couple of years ago on a Sunday night. There weren’t many people, but a great band was playing and we were kicking up our heels with the locals. We also shot pool and played chess in the back. Everyone was extremely friendly. Went there again this past Saturday night. Good R&B band playing, very crowded. Once again, friendly locals, but terrible bartender. Would definitely go there again, but I actually prefer it on an “off” night when there’s more room to move around.Pros + Good musicCons – Out of the way
My first visits to Snug Harbor were for the jazz, not the food. I had thought that one could eat dinner and then watch the show at no additional cost, or better yet, eat during the show. There was wisdom in the old commercial: phone first! We had the disappointment of going down to eat on the night of an expensive (and sold-out) show. Having gotten over that initial disappointment, I must say that eating at Snug Harbor was a pleasant, albeit pedestrian experience. The food has been taken slightly upscale by the new chef. The seafood pasta with creole mustard sauce was a fine example of what the native Creole flavors and ingredients can become when given direction; the blackened fish was well-executed but didn’t distinguish itself. Although the burgers and po’boys are perenially highly rated by local publications, opt for the more original looking dishes on the menu. He sounds like Elvis. He really does. You can’t see him because you’re knee-deep in karaoke-loving, mind-eraser-guzzling French Quarter partiers. Nevertheless, he sounds like Elvis and you’re pretty sure you’ve found a place you want to stay for a while.Cat’s Meow is the place to go if you feel like you’ve had a little too much jazz, a little too much of the strip clubs, and a little too much of Cafe DuMonde. It’s always a party and you never really get bored…unless you’re on the verge of an alcohol coma…which is fairly likely if you’ve been in the Quarter for very long.Be prepared however. It gets crowded and it’s usually filled with people like you–Out-of-Towners looking for a good time.You’ve been warned. Now, be quiet, this guy is singing “Love Me Tender.
I like this place and its bands that play there. Still promoting the old bands of years gone by, like the meters and nevilles, c’mon let some new blood get some light too! I saw a great cover band there called EchosHouse the bass player was very good and the girl singing had some chops too but its not the Nevilles, meters nor the radiators or Wooden Head, c’mon I know new orleans is old but try something new and give the new bands credit they need love too!Now don’t think I hate the old bands cause I still love em all and The Wolf is the place to see the best of the Old and New!
