Where is the Best Live Music Venue in Chicago, Illinois?

Davenport’s is a unique, eclectic musical entertainment venue with honestly talented singing servers, diverse, high quality entertainment and a welcoming feel. Thankfully, in a time when DJs are the norm, Davenport’s still provides live music 6 nights a week, and it’s consistantly good. How wonderful that there is still a venue where Chicago’s talented Cabaret performers can share their talents in a true ‘listenning room.’ Meanwhile, in the outer chamber, you can put your talent to the test most nights at the piano bar, but if you do only one thing this summer, go on Friday or Saturday night to The Nitz & Howe Experience. These guys are brilliant! Daryl and George are laugh out loud funny, clever, adorable ‘comedians’, but don’t kid yourself; they are gifted, talented singers/musicians as well. Part of what makes it so hilarious and fun to be a part of is George’s expert musicianship. He makes it look so easy; he can accompany anybody on anything because he has a million great songs

This is a fine venue to meet with friends and enjoy. The place is large with lots of seating and a big bar. Lots of tvs for sports and live bands on the weekends. Food ids very cheap. They have a order system where you check the box next to your coices and drop off. Then you wait for your # on the display and pick it up. It’s a bit bothersome, but you get a whole meal for around $7-$8. Don’t understand the mediocre reviews- service has always been fine too. This place will never knock your socks off, but gives you all the basics you need- in a large forum.

went on a saturday nite and it was rocking, very crowded. went back on sunday and it was quiet and got to sit. the music was awesome, on sudays if you pay a small cover at B.L.U.E.S across the street they let you in here for free. i caught a set at BLUES and then went into Kingston Mines and saw a band, when they were done i went to the other stage and saw another band. then i went back to BLUES for one more set before heading home. and these guys on Sunday were awesome bands, very well know blues men. three bands in one nite. would love to go back soon. THE BEST! staff at both places were very nice too!

We came in from the suburbs to see a friend of ours band play and were very pleasantly surprised by the unusual food choices. The Jerk Chicken Empanadas were kicked-up HOT but the sour cream/chutney condiment cooled it off enough to be enjoyable. The pizzas were thin and crispy–we liked the artichoke/garlic combo followed by the smoked ham/fig as a sweet finisher. Too much for the two of us, it was all eaten up as the night wore on and still tasty, even though cooled off. The sausage and pepperoni were eaten by the guys so it must have been good too. The music was loud enough for us when our friend’s band was playing, but too loud for us when the other bands were playing their dismal music. Very pleasantly surprised at the $35 cabernet offered. Would definitely like to visit again for the food and wine, hopefully for better (and fairer) music competitions in the future!

This is my favorite live music spot in Chicago. Owned and operated by Lonnie Walker for nearly 20 years, Underground Wonder Bar features blues, jazz, funk, R&B, and folk. They live by the motto “Live 365” b/c there is live music there 365 days a year! the place is small, but the atmosphere is just what I expected for a local jazz/music club…. dimly lit with small tables close together, almost making the audience feel like one big family…Overall, this is a fabulous undiscovered gem… and that is what gives it its charm. Regualrs dominate the place b/c once people go, they almost always want to go back again… The acts I have seen here have been great, but if you go for the first time, try to go on a Wednesday, Friday or Saturday when Lonnie Walker and her Big Bad A$$ Co. Band are playing… her energy
