I was really surprised to see the low-star ratings citing horrible service for Harmony Grill. Granted, I have only been there once, but neither my boyfriend nor I had any complaints. And being that we are heavily tattooed and/or pierced, we are used to getting mediocre service in some of the pricier joints in Chicago (too bad, too, bc we tip awesome)…. Anyways, I had the sweet potato ravioli with pecans and he had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes. Very different tastes accomplished on both (mine a bit more playful/unique, his more traditional), and they were both AWESOME. Our server was friendly, informative, and attentive! I am looking forward to going back! Keeping my fingers crossed we don’t experience the awful service so many others have complained about… I’d hate to have to black mark this establishment!

The Green Mill was a speakeasy back in the days of Al Capone, and it appears not to have changed much since. The cash register is clearly very old, and it’s really cool looking, but it has the unfortunate habit of chiming and clanging during bass solos and other quiet parts of songs. These days, the Green Mill is one of the foremost jazz clubs in Chicago. Kurt Elling and Patricia Barber both have standing gigs there, and both are well worth the $7 cover. Get there early, or else you’ll be jammed in back with the loud men who came to pick up girls and can’t be bothered to shut up so that you can hear the music. The front is quiet (and non-smoking) and you can sit practically within arm’s reach of the musicians. The drinks aren’t cheap, but they aren’t ludicrously expensive. Every time I’ve gone, there’s been street parking out front.

Been there a couple times now, we go more frequently as of late, here’s top 10 reasons why:(PS, im bored at work, so i figured i would document my weekend on citysearch reviews)10) Live Music, wasn’t great, but it was still fun and cheap9) Hot bartenders/servers8) Nice bouncers/doorguys, not there to be intimidating7) No line, nice crowd, wasn’t “shoulder to shoulder” crowded6) Touch screen music before the band went on5) No annoying 18yr old Depaul Kids4) Dog Friendly3) I met the owner, he was cool2) $2 Domestic Drafts! But for those of us that liked specialty beers, they had a wide variety1) I have a big group of friends, with different interests and agendas when they go out, yet, everyone of them seems to feel good about going here often. Thats tought to find in the city.Holler.No doubt, 5 stars, see for yourself.Pros + $2 Domestic Drafts, a TON of other beers on draft too!Cons – For what my friends like in a bar, no cons.

a chicago institution. i love the location and how intimate it is — no matter where you’re standing, you can’t be more than 100 ft back from the stage. awesome. there’s also a “mini bar” conveniently…

My husband and I went to see “Sleeping at Last” last night at the Park West. We found great parking (on a Saturday night!) right on Lincoln Ave., had no problem finding the place and talk about great…
